It was recently announced that filming has begun for the second season of the live-action One Piece, as the Straw Hat Pirates reunite on the Going Merry. Now, Emily Rudd, Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar all reunite on the Grand Line to once again embark on an adventure that will bring anime and non-anime fans together.
As filming began, new cast members kept being announced. While fans were desperately waiting for the live-action version of Nico Robin to be announced, Emily Rudd had plans for another Hollywood star to make his way onto the Grand Line. Many may have heard about Romero and Godoy's desire to bring Danny Devito into the franchise, but the actor Rudd wanted was none other than John Cena.
During a panel at Galaxy Con (via X ), Emily Rudd and Jacob Romero were asked who they would like to see play a role in a live-action One Piece. When considering, one actor everyone agreed on was Danny Devito. After some more thought, Romero came up with the idea of Dave Bautista joining the crew as Jinbei. While that idea got a lot of attention, it was Rudd's choice that got everyone screaming.
She suggested John Cena as Franky, but Romero then asked the most important question: “How do we see him?” Because John Cena is known as “The Invisible Man”. After retiring from wrestling, the legendary John Cena gradually moved into acting, appearing in many films.
Plus, Cena is a known anime fan and his favorite movie is Fist of the Northstar. It might not be a bad idea for the actor to try his hand at playing Franky.
While many people want Jim Carrey to play Franky, as his character Ace Ventura was the inspiration for the Straw Hats' robot, the idea of John Cena playing the role also seems reasonable.
John Cena could easily fit the role, as he has proven time and time again that he is a talented actor. While the issue of his invisibility remains, perhaps fans would be able to see him if he were wearing the Franky costume.
