The Gunhead style of Martial Arts focuses on grappling and controlling opponents, making it ideal for disarming them. Ochaco’s success with Gunhead Martial Arts highlights the need for martial arts training in UA’s curriculum to equip heroes with the necessary skills in restraining and disarming opponents.
When having to fight with others, one My Hero Academy students have taken a giant leap ahead of their peers and it’s all thanks to a little fighting style called Gunhead Martial Arts. With so many powerful heroes in the series, it can be easy for fans to forget that Uraraka is actually a skilled fighter who can defeat almost any other hero in hand-to-hand combat.
When Ochaco Uraraka did a week-long internship after the Sports Festival, she ended up interning with a hero named Gunhead, who turned out to be a surprisingly great mentor. Ochaco spent most of the week learning Gunhead’s signature fighting style, Gunhead Martial Arts, and she picked it up pretty quickly. Ochaco continued her Gunhead Martial Arts training and it quickly became one of her greatest assets. In fact, nothing proves how valuable her knowledge of Gunhead Martial Arts is to her more than her frequent conflicts with Himiko Toga.
Gunhead martial arts should be taught to every UA student
As it turns out, Gunhead Martial Arts is mainly about grappling and controlling the opponent’s movements to prevent them from attacking. It is also excellent for disarming opponents, and Ochaco has used it on multiple occasions against the knife-wielding Toga (often shouting “Gunhead Martial Arts!” as she does so). Ochaco’s mastery of the Gunhead Martial Arts has undoubtedly saved her life time and time again, giving her the skills and knowledge needed to dodge enemy attacks and immobilize them. . Very few of her students participate in any form of martial arts training (Tailman Mashirao Ojiro is the major exception).
Ochaco’s success with Gunhead Martial Arts really puts a dent in making certain forms of martial arts part of the UA curriculum. After all, heroes aren’t supposed to kill, so becoming an expert at restraining opponents will be an essential skill. And, while many villains use their Quirks, it’s not unusual to see villains using weapons, so the knowledge to disarm them would be extremely valuable. . Although the nature of some Quirks, such as Tokoyami’s Shadow, may make martial arts less valuable to such students, cases where it is necessary may still arise, and discipline as well as the exercise provided by martial arts will still be beneficial.
While fans may not have expected Ochaco to become one of the most skilled fighting practitioners in the series, her mastery of the Gunhead Martial Arts is quite an accomplishment, especially given that She only had a week to train with Gunhead at first. Ochaco almost immediately understood the importance of these martial arts skills, especially when combined with her Quirk, which was very effective in disorienting her opponents. While she may not have come to UA with the desire to become a fighting hero, Ochaco’s skills certainly placed her in one. My Hero Academyis the best, and nothing proves that more than her defeating Toga with Gunhead Martial Arts.
