My Hero Academia's Bakugo Katsuki Have matures and changes more than most other characters in the story.. In his early moments in My Hero Academia, he is extremely cruel to those around him, especially Deku, to cover up his fear of falling behind his classmates. He is also very reckless, endangering both himself and others by letting his anger control him and foolishly using his powerful Quirk.
One of the most pivotal moments in My Hero Academia is when Bakugo and Deku get into a fight outside the dorms in season 3, only to be interrupted by their teacher, All Might. After the Provisional Hero License Exams ended, with everyone in Class 1-A except Todoroki and Bakugo having passed, Bakugo confronted his classmate, challenging him to a physical fight.
Deku doesn't want to fight Bakugo and tries to reason with him, but Bakugo wants to see Deku's Quirk One For All in action, in an attempt to find out why All Might chose him as his successor.
Bakugo confesses that he feels responsible for All Might losing his Quirk.
Despite All Might reassuring him that this was not true, Bakugo still carried deep feelings of guilt over the incident.
During the clash, All Might confronts two young students, breaking up the fight. In the following scene, Bakugo made a truly shocking confession to All Might.shows emotion for the first time. He reveals that he blames himself for All Might losing his powers, as he lost them while rescuing Bakugo from the League of Villains. This tearful moment marks a turning point in Bakugo's journey, allowing All Might to comfort and encourage the aspiring hero. This pivotal scene unleashes a previously unseen side of the hot-headed hero, proving that Bakugo is more than just a class bully.
Bakugo has shown that he is much more caring and considerate of others than he used to be, as he genuinely cared for All Might and carefully considered the danger the Pro Hero would be in now that he had lost the last embers of One For All forever. Bakugo had always acted confident, arrogant, and superior to his classmates, so a huge change seeing him tearfully apologize to his hero, All MightAlthough All Might assured Bakugo that he would soon lose his Quirk, he still showed genuine remorse and took responsibility.
Bakugo and Deku's relationship changes in the third act of this season, becoming less toxic.
Bakugo begins to see Deku as someone to compete with rather than someone to defeat.
This scene also completely changes the dynamic between Bakugo and DekuBakugo's behavior shifts from being downright mean to more of a playful rivalry with Deku. Previously, Bakugo was an aggressor, bullying and belittling Deku at every opportunity. However, this scene marks a turning point in Bakugo's thinking towards his aspiring hero. While he doesn't begin to show excessive affection or kindness towards Izuku, he does ease up on the petty insults and unnecessary physical attacks, viewing Deku as an equal rather than an inferior. Bakugo never actually considered Deku inferior to him, but he acted that way to hide his insecurities.
Bakugo and Deku both grew up admiring All Might and aspired to be like him, so it's possible that It was a huge shock to find out that his idol had chosen his biggest rival.Deku, in order to inherit his Quirk. Bakugo feels the need to prove that he is “better” than Deku, and this feeling only increases after learning that All Might sees incredible potential in Izuku. Knowing that Bakugo’s behavior stems from jealousy and weakness humanizes him and takes him from an unnecessarily mean character without reason, to a struggling teenager who is finally starting to come to terms with and overcome his feelings of powerlessness.
Bakugo proves that he is becoming the hero he was destined to be in this scene.
Viewers no longer have to worry that he might turn out to be a villain, as he has shown a sincere desire to improve.
All Might assures Bakugo that he does not need the One For All Quirk because he is already too strong with an extraordinary Explosion Quirk. All Might chooses Deku as his successor to help him gain more power, since Deku was born without a Quirk, but Bakugo already has a spectacular Quirk and does not need help. Upon realizing All Might's reasoning, and being assured that All Might's loss of power is not his fault, Bakugo begins working to shift your thinking from anger to acceptanceHis relationship with Deku doesn't become perfect right away, but it's a step in the right direction.
A lot has changed for Bakugo at this point, and he begins on the path to becoming an honorable hero instead of a cruel villain, at a time when he could go either way. Horikoshi explained in an interview that He always intended to develop Bakugo into a hero.But in the Hideout Raid arc, his future seemed uncertain to viewers. With this scene, Horikoshi proved that Bakugo would never fall into evil and that his tendency to get angry and rage was a result of his own lack of confidence, not actual malice or a desire to harm others unnecessarily.
At the end of the scene, Bakugo switches to a more positive mindset.
His relationship with Deku also begins to improve as they move from enemies to competitors.
Bakugo still hasn't formally apologized to Deku at this point. That pivotal moment won't come until a later fight. However, this scene is just as important because It marks the beginning of Bakugo's journey towards becoming a better hero. and a kinder person. The conversation between him, All Might, and Deku allowed him to get some of his inner struggles off his chest and be reassured that the guilt he carried regarding All Might's fate wasn't a burden he had to bear. He also made great strides in his complicated and confusing relationship with Deku.
Bakugo and Deku certainly didn't immediately become best friends, but they began to treat each other differently and with less hostility. Bakugo re-enacted the way he looked at Deku, looking at him as someone to compete with rather than someone to destroy. He uses Deku's achievements to motivate him further and inspire him to achieve his own goals. At the end of their fight, they both vow to surpass each other, happily arguing over who will become the ultimate hero. That final scene revealed the beginning of a whole new dynamic between My Hero Academia pair and a new, more positive mindset for Bakugo.
