Warning: Spoiler for My Hero Academia Chapter #393My Hero Academy just witnessed Ochaco Uraraka go through her own Awakening, and the nature of this upgrade is suspiciously similar to Shigaraki’s. Quirk awakening is a feat that very few characters achieve throughout the series, and most of it is done by the bad guys, so to see Uraraka achieve that is quite impressive.
In chapter 393, when Uraraka tries to handle the influx of Toga/Twice clones, they begin to drift away from her when she touches them. However, it doesn’t stop there; Uraraka’s Quirk floating things started bumping into the others, causing them to float too. Soon, as they were circling around weightless, nearly every clone became helpless, hovering in the air with no way back to Earth. It’s the perfect ability for a hero like Uraraka, as she can disable a large number of people without actually hurting any of them. It also happens to be exactly the kind of strength the heroes need on their side right now.
Uraraka’s ability awakening function is the same as Shigaraki’s own awakening
Back in “My Villain Academia”, Shigaraki improved her Disintegration ability after awakening. Previously, anything he touched would disintegrate, but upon awakening, that Decay can transfer from object to object by touching, which is how he can destroy an entire city. so quickly in the Occult War of Liberation. Uraraka’s powers now work in a similar way, by affecting an object, which will then switch to an attribute affected by the Quirk in any way it comes in contact with. Since a person’s first instinct when floating may be to cling to something, it is easy to see how quickly this effect will spread.
Ironically, by developing her powers in a similar way, Uraraka has actually created a method against Decay that is perfect. For example, in the event of another wave of destruction, she can ask her allies to join hands and lift everyone off the ground, making it impossible for Decay to spread to them. This also has some obvious relevance to Uraraka’s expertise in rescue applications, such as her simply touching a shard to lift all the debris that’s trapped someone. While it can also be used offensively, she has vowed to abandon the idea of dropping enemies from great heights, so don’t expect to see the power work that way.
While many fans are calling for the awakening of super powers for the hero side, it is quite surprising that Uraraka is the one to do so. She is clearly being pushed to her limits here, and that is one of the key conditions needed to awaken the Quirk. There is also a lot of intense emotion about another known claim. With Ochaco Uraraka’s power now on another level, the only question for My Hero Academy the fan now is whether this buff will help her get through Toga.
