A popular fan has confirmed that Shonen Jump’s My Hero Academia: Vigilantes spinoff manga will get an anime adaptation.
Twitter user and die-hard fan of My Hero Academia Ever (@DabisPoleDance) has announced an anime adaptation for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes — a standalone prequel series to Shonen Jump’s hugely popular My Hero Academia. — currently being worked on. Ever did not specify when the Vigilantes movie adaptation is slated to premiere. She also did not confirm whether Bones Inc., the animation studio responsible for the original anime adaptation of My Hero Academia, would return to oversee production of the beloved shounen prequel spinoff. .
My Hero Academia: What is Vigilantes?
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spinoff prequel series written by author Hideyuki Furuhashi and manga artist Betten Court. The series launched in August 2016, with a side story that began serialization in Jump Giga magazine before moving to Shueisha’s Shonen Jump + online publication for the remainder of its six-year run. Vigilantes ended in July 2022 with a final total of 126 chapters, which has since been compiled into 15 independent volumes. Publisher Viz Media previously announced that the complete English translation of the final volume of Vigilantes will be released in print on October 10.
Set several years before the events of the main series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes tells the story of Koichi Haimawari, a 19-year-old university student who deeply admires world heroes such as the Symbol of Peace. Legendary vase, All Might. However, Koichi’s weak oddity “Slide and Glide” prevented him from following in his idol’s footsteps, leading to him being recruited by Knuckleduster and pursuing justice in Tokyo’s underworld. Regarding the more stark tone of the spin-off, Furuhashi said that the darker setting portrayed in Vigilantes was heavily influenced by Watchmen and DC’s The Dark Knight Returns.
Beware also features multiple appearances from some of My Hero Academia’s beloved characters. Most notably, the prequel series highlights the beginnings of Class 1-A’s fan-favorite homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa, aka Eraserhead. The harsher tone also allows for a deeper exploration of some of My Hero Academia’s most notorious villains, such as the infamous Hero Killer Stain. Several Pro Heroes also participate in the story of the series, with icons such as All Might, Endeavor, and Mirko appearing throughout the story.
At the time of this writing, the anime adaptation of the spin-off series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes does not yet have an official release date. The upcoming season 7 of My Hero Academia is currently in production.
