When My Hero Academia At first, no one expected that One For All, the powerful quirk that All Might passed on to Deku through a lock of his hair, would actually be a 7-in-1 deal. As of the Joint Training arc/Season 5, Deku begins to manifest Blackwhip, one of the quirks contained in One For All. By the middle of the Final War arc/Season 7, Deku is finally seen using Gearshift, allowing him to fully utilize One For All.
All of the quirks in One For All are different in nature and they also have different levels of application, with some of Deku's One For All quirks being more useful than others. Deku, being the smart guy he is, has used all of them in various ways, from his encounter with Lady Nagant, to his final fight with Shigaraki. Like any other action series, events happen in the blink of an eye during battles and it's difficult to keep track of everything, so here's a quick rundown of all the quirks available to Deku in One For All:
1 One for all
Type: Transmitter
One For All is the backbone for all other quirks because without One For All, all quirks would die along with their users. One For All has two main characteristics: the first is its transferability, attributes that allow it to be passed from one user to another. Yoichi, All For One's older brother, was the first user of One For All, until it was passed on to Kudo without Yoichi knowing. A “side effect” of One For All being passed on from person to person is that each user's conscience remains within the quirk. That is what Izuku saw in the ruins world.
One For All's second trait is power accumulation and physical enhancement. This is unclear since Yoichi is the only user (and the ability is transferable as well), but The more power it transfers, the stronger it becomes. However, the downside is that One For All will overwhelm the user's body if they already had a previous quirk. Neither Deku nor All Might have experienced this due to their quirkless nature, but it has affected all previous users, potentially killing its fourth user, Shinomori.
2 Shifting
Type: Transmitter
Gearshift originally belonged to Kudo, the second user of One For All. Since this was the last time Deku was allowed to use it, not much is known about its function. Gearshift works exactly as its name suggests: like shifting gears while driving, Gearshift controls the speed at which an object can move. and, by the way, its trajectory. Kudo's original quirk could only manipulate small objects, so he used it on bullets, but now the quirk has evolved so that Deku can use it on himself. In that way, Gearshift works similarly to Uravity's Zero Gravity.
Deku has used Gearshift to increase the speed of his existing attacks, as seen in the epic Detroit Smashes combo in the episode “A Chain of Events, Across the Ages” and chapter 369 of the manga of the same name. Deku has also used Gearshift in conjunction with Fa Jin to make himself move extremely fast to the point of defying physics, like a true hero. However, this quirk has the disadvantage of having an extremely large physical recoil, Kudo even warns Deku not to overuse it as it could kill him.
3 French Attack
Type: Transmitter
The easiest way to explain the French Revolution is to compare it to a wind-up toy. Fa Jin stores energy by performing repetitive movements, and this can be clearly seen when Deku stores energy in his legs while jumping up and down while trying to escape from Lady Nagant. Deku often combines Fa Jin with other traits. This is how he initially accelerates when trying to reach Coffin in the Sky after being dragged to Okuto Island by Toga. By activating Float and accelerating with Fa Jin and One For All, he can fly at incredible speeds.
“Fa jin” is actually a Chinese term used in martial arts and means “to release energy suddenly and explosively”, which is exactly what the Quirk does.
Unlike Gearshift, it's unclear whether this quirk has been improved in any way since it was passed down from its original user, Bruce, but the fact remains that It also acts on One For All itself, enhancing physical enhancement abilities.
4 Sense of danger
Type: Transmitter
Perhaps the strangest thing in One For All, Danger Sense is clearly reminiscent of Spiderman's Spider-sense as they have similar functions. Danger Sense warns users of nearby threatsBut there is one thing to note: as seen in the encounter between Deku and Toga on Okuto Island, the fact that Toga herself believed that her actions were out of love and not meant to threaten Deku, so the Danger Sense did not activate. It does not matter whether the user of this ability considers her a threat.
Danger Sense also does not guarantee that the user can dodge attacks or neutralize dangers. It activates and warns Deku of Lady Nagant's bullets, but he still gets hurt. In a way, this is a very annoying quirk, as it only makes the user aware of danger, but it's up to them to figure out how to avoid it, if possible.
5 Black Whips
Type: Transmitter
Blackwhip is the first additional quirk that Deku unlocks, which happens by accident during Joint Training. As explained by the original user, Daigoro Banjo, it gives the user the ability to extend and use tendrils of black energy, much like a whip. This is a very versatile ability. It can be used for quick transportation, binding enemies, rescuing peopleand even as a temporary fixation for an injured body part.
Cellophane has helped Deku control Blackwhip, so now he can control not only the number of whips he draws, but also their length and strength. One important element that Banjo mentioned and doesn't seem to apply to other OFA traits is domination of emotions, of the heart. If Deku can't control them, Blackwhip will become uncontrollable too.
6 Smoke Screen
Type: Transmitter
Smokescreen is a pretty simple trait: with it, Deku can produces thick purple smoke from his body allowing him to conceal his location and distract enemies. to buy some time. Deku used Smokescreen in his encounters with Muscular, Lady Nagant, and Shigaraki Tomura. In this last instance, he combined Smokescreen with Gearshift to make the smoke dissipate much slower and conceal his Blackwhip attack.
While Smokescreen doesn't reach the heights of the other Quirks found in One For All, it does have great utility. With it, Deku can make quick escapes, conceal his location, and disorient enemies. Deku is a smart character, which means that in his hands, Smokescreen has real potential to help the young hero in a time of need.
7 Buoys
Type: Transmitter
An oddity Originally owned by Nana Shimura, Tomura Shigaraki's grandmother. Like Smokescreen, its primary function is simple: to make the user float in the air. Combining it with One For All's power and Deku's intelligence and AirForce moves allows him to fly at high speeds. Deku initially learned how to control his body during his airborne training with Uraraka, and by the time of the Paranormal Liberation War arc, he had perfected it. Floating is also an effective method of avoiding Shigaraki's downfall.
Some One For All traits are definitely more complex than others, but they all serve Deku well in his quest to become the greatest hero. It's important to note that, ultimately, The hero creates the oddity, not the other way around. Deku has become the greatest in My Hero AcademiaNot because he has these seven odd traits, but because of the way he uses them, thanks to his intelligence and ingenuity.
