Dekucharacter arc of in My Hero Academy is almost over but the series has the perfect opportunity to show his growth in the final battle with Shigaraki. It all revolves around an almost forgotten power that All Might demonstrated in the first chapter of the manga. If mangaka Kohei Horikoshi brings back that power before the series ends, it would be a poetic climax to Deku’s journey.
Deku’s main character throughout the series is his transformation from a noble hero who wants to become someone who actually has the power to help people. After inheriting his powers from All Might at the beginning of the series, he felt extremely pressured to follow his predecessor’s example. Deku’s final battle with My Hero Academia’s ultimate villain Shigaraki in many ways shows that he has finally stepped into the role that All Might holds, as the only one strong enough to deal with the transformation. All For One’s new incarnation of his generation. So it would be fitting to end this fight by reliving one of All Might’s most impressive feats.
Deku needs to copy All Might’s first achievement in My Hero Academia
In the very first chapter of the series, All Might saved Deku and Bakugo from a sludge criminal who was threatening to take over their bodies. To stop it, All Might punched the villain so hard that it made it rain, implying that the attack had immense power behind it. All Might never displayed this power in My Hero Academia again, possibly due to his deteriorating physical condition. However, it would be extremely poetic if during the battle with Shigaraki,
Deku also throws a punch that causes it to rain, as this shows that Midoriya truly embodies the power of the Hero who once saved him.
This move can also create some even bigger symbols later in the fight if the move fails to finish Shigaraki. Rain also brings with it clouds and darkness, which is somewhat contrary to the beacon of hope that Deku wants to be. So if his next attacks dispel this rain, it will be the perfect illustration of how Deku has become an even brighter beacon of hope than his predecessor. It would also fit Deku’s different approach when fighting Shigaraki, as Midoriya wants to reform him instead of beating him into submission like All Might is currently doing with All For One.
Given how perfectly this move fits the story’s theme, it would be a shame if My Hero Academia didn’t revisit this attack. Of course, Horikoshi may have something even more epic in the works to close out his epic story even if this moment isn’t revisited. But if All Might’s forgotten attack was brought back into the story it would be an interesting callback My Hero Academy fans and is a great sign of Deku’s growth.
