Oricon recently released Japan's manga sales from August 5 to September 1, and the results were quite surprising. Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia outsold all other manga, selling 678,672 copies. That's a 68% increase from last month's sales.
Next up is Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yuusuke Nomura's popular sports manga Blue Lock, which has seen a staggering increase in circulation since July 2024. With a 110% increase, the manga has sold 346,039 copies, although it is still significantly lower than its predecessor.

Gege Akutami's sensational Jujutsu Kaisen manga came in second with 246,550 copies sold, a 78% drop in sales. This is a shocker for the manga, as it was at an all-time high for a while.
One Piece's placement on this list is even more shocking. Despite delivering one of the best arcs in its nearly three-decade-long run, Eiichiro Oda's masterpiece has suffered a significant drop in sales, with just 186,113 copies purchased by fans.
While fan favorites like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen saw steep declines, some others saw surprising success in August 2024. Chainsaw Man re-entered the top 10 with 190,822 copies sold. Katainaka no Ossan, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Sakamoto Days also saw similar declines.
By the way, My Hero Academia is also leading the sales charts when it comes to manga volumes. Volume 41 of the series sold 339,959 copies, much higher than the 105,227 copies of Jujutsu Kaisen volume 27 and the 89,991 copies of One Piece volume 109.
One reason behind My Hero Academia's massive sales success is likely due to the manga ending this past August. Jujutsu Kaisen will follow a similar path, with the series ending on September 30, 2024. So, Jujutsu Kaisen will likely see a steady increase in sales in the future.
As for One Piece, readers will have a lot to look forward to in the coming months as the manga finally enters the highly anticipated Elbaf arc.
