My Happy Marriage is a romance anime series that should definitely be on your “Must Watch” list for summer 2023. Based on the manga and light novel series of the same name, the show is set in a Alternate version of Japan’s Meiji Restoration, in which supernatural entities and abilities are common among Japan’s leading families. The film tells the story of the main character Miyo Saimori, who after the death of her mother is forced to work as a servant for the family to which she is born by her new wife and her father’s daughter.

Miyo’s Tale is a delightful retelling of the classic Cinderella story, but doesn’t feel like a cheap imitation. Instead, it feels refreshing on the recently made romantic anime scene, thanks to its interesting world and dedication to character development. The story also tells about Kiyoko Kudo, the main love of the story. At first I worried that Kiyoko would become a one-sided character at the beginning of the story due to the viewer having a very limited view of his personality, but so far, his personality has developed quite Good.
The other characters are believable and help make the world more realistic, with the exception of the villains, although I suspect this is about to change. In the first few episodes, we are introduced to a family that is only interested in getting Miyo for nefarious reasons, and I feel that they don’t have the character to be more than one-dimensional bad guys. However, after that resolution, we were introduced to the story’s main antagonist in a family with ties to her mother in Miyo’s past, and I think we’ll see more of the character. more believable villains in the future.

The anime is greatly helped by its beautiful art style, which conveys the emotions of each scene quite well. One of my favorite aspects of this artwork is the attention to detail in the characters’ outfits as well as the home’s interior. They are all very well animated and it feels like a lot of care has been given to them. Like art, music is very relevant to each scene.
The music sets the mood for each scene very well, the sad scenes are conveyed convincingly with great dubbing and the music captivates the viewer. Meanwhile, the fun and casual scenes are accompanied by soothing piano music that sounds like something out of a Studio Ghibli movie. The opening is also a great fit for My Happy Marriage and has already racked up an impressive 2 million views on YouTube.

My Happy Marriage is a great summer anime that actually landed at #2 on AnimeTrendz’s Trending Anime chart. While the music and art style is absolutely amazing, the story is really well paced, the characters and the believable setting that make up an anime series inspired this author to choose manga ( and perhaps light novels) in the future.
My Happy Marriage is streaming on Netflix.
