My Dress-Up Darling is celebrating its 10 million copies in circulation with special artwork.
As detailed on Crunchyroll, My Dress-Up Darling is launching a campaign to celebrate the manga’s impressive milestone. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the series introduced two works of art that will be displayed on digital signs in train stations and bookstores across Tokyo. Series creator Shinichi Fukuda created the first illustration, depicting main characters Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa holding up an announcement sign against a backdrop of brightly colored balloons. Kazumasa Ishida, the main character designer for the anime adaptation of My Dress-Up Darling, drew the second illustration. As an additional commemorative gesture, publisher Square Enix has made the first 100 chapters of the series available for free on Manga Up! website until October 26.
My Dress-Up Darling, also known by its translated Japanese title That Bisque Doll Falls in Love, debuted in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine on January 19, 2018. The romantic comedy revolves around a young high school student named Wakana Gojo, who aspires to become a traditional Japanese Hina doll maker. Despite his natural talent, Gojo keeps his ambitions a secret due to a traumatic incident in his childhood that involved a close friend openly mocking his dreams. One day, a popular classmate named Marin Kitagawa noticed Gojo’s skills and convinced him to start designing cosplay costumes for her. United by a common interest, the couple eventually begin to fall in love. The series has attracted a large and enthusiastic following, including many fans who honor Marin Kitagawa through their own cosplays of the character.
Last year, CloverWorks produced and adapted Fukuda’s popular series into an anime, running 12 episodes from January to March 2022. Keisuke Shinohara (Black Fox, Bocchi the Rock) directed the series, while Yoriko Tomita (Hi Score Girl) takes on both parts. script and series composition. In the original Japanese version, Shoya Ishige (Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS) and Hina Suguta (BanG Dream! Potential buyers will be able to get their hands on the film starting November 7. CloverWorks has also confirmed that a My Dress-Up Darling sequel is officially in the works. However, the studio has not yet set an official release date.
