There's something about seeing Koshitan relax that makes me feel at ease. Seeing those beautiful lilac eyes light up makes me feel that maybe there's something good in this world. However, Nokotan doesn't share my feelings and her actions in My Deer Friend Nokotan episode 11 are the most disrespectful.
I can't blame Nokotan for sleeping in class; I've done worse. In college, my ethics and sociology professors said attendance was optional, and those classes never saw me again. So even if she slept in class, I couldn't blame her; at least she was there. Even if Nokotan's sleep caused a flock of swallows to swarm her classroom, I couldn't blame her.
My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode 11; The Hunt
For Nokotan, all of existence is a battlefield. After all, when eight out of ten guys eat you, life is usually full of problems. So when a hunter shows up to claim Nokotan's delicious venison, things start to get serious. Before she sees him, Nokotan knows there's a guy with a gun heading to her class. And while I nearly burst a blood vessel not wanting to joke about it, I realize that I'm probably missing some reference in this scene. From the exaggerated introduction to the change in art style when the hunter shows up, something is going on. Exactly what is beyond me.
No, even though I no longer felt the grandeur of that scene, hearing Kana Arima say “gibier, gibier” was a happy moment. For those who don’t know (because I certainly didn’t), the gibier festival is a wild game food festival. Japanese people don’t like game meat, so these festivals are a way to get them to eat things they normally wouldn’t eat. And I can’t understand why people don’t like game meat, but aside from the thought of someone who likes to eat at 3am, Nokotan had the upper hand in her hunt. Even the school’s gyarus lent her a hand. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: gyarus are awesome.
And as this most epic hunt entered its second day, an epic battle took place on the roof. With lightsabers (RIP James Earl Jones), FMJ/USMC quotes, and domain extensions, I was expecting a battle unlike any other. But the disappointment when I realized this wouldn’t happen forever killed a part of my spirit.
Peaceful Days Never Last
And as we move from the (supposedly) epic battle to the peaceful days, it seems like everything is fine in Hino. As the peaceful days unfold, Koshitan and Nokotan enjoy a fun day of shopping. But if there’s one thing life has taught me over the past three decades, it’s that peaceful days never last. And as My Deer Friend Nokotan episode 11 is approaching its finish line, something unexpected happens. In a scene from Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, when the next day comes, only Koshitan remembers Nokotan.
Adolescent syndrome has haunted me for years after watching AoButa. The thought of waking up and forgetting the people I love is so disturbing that I can't even describe it. I don't have many fears in life, but dementia, prion disease, Alzheimer's, and rabies are haunting. Getting that curveball on this show was unsettling, but knowing this is a slice-of-life show, I'm looking forward to a happy ending next week.
