The original Mobile Suit Gundam anime and the sequel it spawned continue to be the biggest mecha series to date. This includes an iconic series that now has a new line of sneakers to keep fans looking fresh.
Fashion brand STRICT-GGundam is expanding with a special shoe line, with sneakers based on the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack series. Produced in collaboration with a major shoe manufacturer, the shoes are available for pre-order now for an official release later this year. They also show that the series they're based on remains one of the most popular in the franchise.

As noted, the “STRICT-G SPINGLE Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack Leather Velcro Sneakers” are inspired by the movie Char’s Counterattack. To that end, the shoes are based on the designs of the RX-93 Nu-Gundam and the MSN-04 Sazabi. The former is designed and piloted by Amuro Ray, while his rival, Char Aznable, pilots the Sazabi. While the shoes may not be as advanced as the giant robots, they are still great and can be much more comfortable due to the Velcro straps and sleek design. They are made from luxurious cowhide, with the vulcanization method used to create them making the shoes durable and tightly bonded. The shoes are made by Japanese manufacturer SPINGLE, although they are released under Bandai’s “STRICT-G” brand of Gundam clothing, footwear, and other collectibles.
The new shoes are now available for pre-order, and they will only be released at STRICT-G stores starting October 5, 2024. However, fans will need to shell out a pretty penny, as the shoes cost 23,100 yen (about $162 USD). Released in 1988, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack remains one of the most beloved films in the Gundam franchise. Until the release of Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, it was the last major entry in the Universal Century timeline alongside 1993's Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. It grossed over $8 million at the box office, although that figure has since been surpassed by the series' most recent film, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, which grossed over $32 million.
