‘s Zaku Mobile Suit
One fan’s Mobile Suit Gunma cosplay is as dazzling as the Red Comet.
Dressed as a variation of Char’s Zaku II, one cosplayer shows off a homemade costume powerful enough to take down Amuro Ray. With ax in hand and gas mask on face, this fan perfectly captures the spirit of one of the most iconic mobile suits. In fact, her costume was so impressive that she wowed the judges of a competition with her cosplay counterattack.

Cosplay earns the trophy for bringing Char’s model to life
Posted by Reddit userGundam_M3ister, the cosplay in question is a version of the user’s MS-06S Char’s Zaku II. This unit was the first mobile suit used by the villain Char Aznable in the classic works of the anime Mobile Suit Gunma. Although similar in design to the normal green Zakus, this variant is superior in both styling and Char’s handling and skills. Gundam_M3ister’s cosplay uses the mobile suit surrounding her as armor, albeit leaving her thighs and head exposed. Other than that, though, it’s a perfect representation of the mobile suit, right down to the “gas mask” mask and the ax.
Even the Principality of Zeon is mentioned on cosplayer Zaku’s shoulder pads, and with the bulky round feet, the resemblance is truly uncanny. It looks like Gun_M3ister won a trophy for her successful cosplay and it was her first time participating. Many fans on Reddit had similarly positive things to say, with one describing the outfit as “metallic.”

Char Aznable is one of GTA’s most famous and iconic characters
Based on Manfred von Richthofen, aka the Red Baron, Char Aznable debuted in the original Mobile Suit anime. There, he works for the Principality of Zeon and is one of the show’s antagonists, acting as a rival to main character Amuro Ray. Likewise, Amuro Ray’s RX-78-2 is often on par with Char’s Zaku II in popularity. Although he started out as an enemy, Char’s allegiances changed throughout the series, most notably when he adopted the moniker Quattro Bajeena in Mobile Suit Zeta Gun. He is once again the main antagonist in the film Mobile Suit Gun: Char’s CounterAttack, which is the culmination of most of Universal Century’s storylines.
Char also inspired countless other characters in other anime and anime timelines. These “Char replacements” are often charismatic villains in their own right, and they have blonde hair or silver masks that obscure their features. To this day, Char is still recognizable, although Char’s counterattack ended his story. So it’s no surprise that his Robot cosplay went viral at a recent contest.
