Fans now know the release date of the upcoming original anime series from famous studio MAPPA.
Bucchigiri?! is the newest anime from the famous studio and it has no previous manga or light novel source material. As seen in the trailer, the premise involves main character Arajin Tomoshibi as he transfers to Ichizu High School. Unfortunately for him, this is a notorious school for delinquents – a fact that becomes clear as other characters are introduced. However, he meets a seemingly old friend named Matakara Asamine and decides that now might be his time to shine in his new learning environment.
However, the second half of the trailer shows Bucchigiri?! probably won’t be your typical “yanki” comedy anime. Action and even supernatural elements may also appear, specifically through the presence of an apparent deity named Majin Senya, suggesting the series incorporates elements of One Thousand and One Nights. . Other characters are shown engaging in lively battles, promising that the school’s students will gain a reputation as fierce delinquents. In many ways, Bucchigiri seems like a show somewhat reminiscent of the 2003-2004 Cromartie High School anime, albeit with more intentionally ridiculous and unrealistic elements.
Bucchigiri movie trailer?! revealed the series’ release date as January 13, 2024, while the accompanying new image introduces the show’s full cast of characters. The anime will be licensed outside of Japan through the Crunchyroll streaming service. Hiroko Utsumi is an anime director who previously directed the anime adaptation of the organized crime/crime series Banana Fish. Taku Kishimoto is the main author, Michiru Oshima and Takahiro Kagami serve as composer and character designer respectively. The series’ cast names were revealed as follows:
Arajin Tomoshibi voiced by Genki Okawa Matakara Asamine voiced by Yusuke Hoshino Senya voiced by Masafumi Kobatake Marito voiced by Nozomu Sasaki Kenichiro voiced by Jiro Saito Komao voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi Zabu voiced by Yukihiro Nozuyama Outa voiced by Ryota Takeuchi Jabashiri voiced by Makoto Furukawa Hagure voiced by Shota Hayama Akutaro voiced by Chihiro Suzuki Mahoro voiced by Anna Nagase
Bucchigiri?! is releasing amid the ongoing MAPPA controversy stemming from the studio’s working conditions. Many employees spoke out against these issues and the low pay of animators, with some going to great lengths to speak out against the studio. The film’s theme song is “Sesame” by Kroi. It is currently unclear how many episodes the series will last.
