The fourth compiled book volume by Jun Esaka and beautiful Takahide Totsuno revealed on December 19 that the manga will have six volumes.
The manga is based on Esaka’s runner-up winning story “Beautiful” in Young Jump’s 2020 “Anime 1 Cours-bun Plot” contest, where contestants submitted plot ideas suitable for an anime series three imaginary months long. Esaka won 500,000 yen (about US$3,900) for the contest.
Esaka’s original story focuses on Kurumi, a girl who grew up in an academy and is excited on the eve of her 10th birthday, when her vocation will be announced. But when she wakes up, she is 22 years old and somehow she is living with Kiyoka, a friend she was not very close to before. She discovers that on her 10th birthday, she had an accident and she began to suffer from an illness that made her only able to retain memories one day at a time, and 12 years have passed since there.
Esaka and Totsuno launched the manga in Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine in June 2022.
Esaka wrote Sasuke Shinden, Naruto: Sasuke’s Story-Star Pupil, and Naruto: Sasuke’s Story–The Sasuke and the Heavenly Stardust spin-off stories of the Naruto franchise, all of which are published in English by Viz Media. Esaka recently wrote the spin-off novel One Piece Heroines.
Totsuno previously drew the manga Alice & Taiyo (Alice to Taiyō). Totsuno launched the manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2018 and ended it in November of the same year. Shueisha has published three compilation volumes of the manga. Viz Media digitally published the first three chapters of the manga in English as part of the company’s “Jump Start” initiative.
