Manga creator Kia Asamiya said on Twitter on Wednesday that his planned cataract surgery was successful and his vision was restored to 1.0 (equivalent to vision is 20/20 in US distance vision), but he will let himself stabilize and observe the consequences of the surgery than it is time to see the final effects.
He added that he will be able to attend a screening of the animated film Steam Detectives on Saturday, although he will have to wear goggles.
He thanked everyone for their support. He also apologized for not being able to reply to messages from fans and customers, but he read all the messages sent to him. Finally, he said he would take it easy a bit and run in “low gear”.
When Asamiya first shared in February that he had cataracts in his eyes, he said he was seeing double images. On April 29, he reported that his eyesight had become so poor that he could no longer count his fingers and could not read messages on LINE and Messenger.
Asamiya had planned to launch a new manga titled Captain Symphonica (pictured above right) on Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma website in January, but Asamiya has stated that the manga”will probably start later this month.” .”Web Comic Gamma has not made any announcement about the manga's release date.
The “classic futuristic sci-fi action” story revolves around the silver-winged spaceship “Blitzen” that protects the peace of the solar system by creating using the sonic star weapon “Symphonica Waffe.”
Asamiya finished Speope! (Space Opera!!) manga with the simultaneous release of the seventh and eighth compiled book volumes on December 26. The manga launched in Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine in March 2019.
Asamiya created Silent Möbius, Steam Manga Detectives, Compiler, and Junk: Record of the Last Hero, among many other manga. He provided character designs for the anime Martian Successor Nadesico (which he later adapted into the manga Nadesico), adapted the film Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace into manga, and wrote and drew the Batman comic : The Child of Dreams. Many of his manga have been adapted into anime.
Viz Media published the Silent Möbius and Steam Detectives manga in North America, while CPM Manga published Nadesico and DrMaster published Junk: Record of the Last Hero. Manga Planet licensed Silent Möbius in July 2020.
