The 78th Mainichi Film Awards announced the winners on Friday. The original animated film Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō (maboroshi) by Mari Okada and MAPPA won the Animation Award, and The Boy and the Heron by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli won the Noburou Oofuji Award, which celebrates animated works that offer new forms of creative expression.
Additionally, Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki won the Grand Prize. Anri Jojo won the Artistic Award for Godzilla Minus One.
Jinji Sakamoto’s Sekai no Okiku (Okiku and the World) took home the award for Best Japanese Film.
The awards ceremony will take place on February 14.
Godzilla Minus One was nominated in six different categories at the following awards: Japan Film Award/Outstanding Japanese Film Award, Director Award for Takashi Yamazaki, Cinematography Award for Kozo Shibasaki, Artistic Award for Anri Jojo, Music Award to Naoki Satō and Recording Award to Hisashi Takeuchi.
