Luffy‘S Straw hat one of A pieceIts most iconic symbol, but its human form is absolutely horrible. This is somewhat shocking as the Straw Hats have come to represent the entire series, even lending the name to Luffy’s crew, representing an important connection to a character from Luffy’s past: Shanks. Red Hair.
Right in the first chapter of the series, Luffy wanted to join Shanks’ crew. He idolized Shanks and even stabbed himself in the face to try to convince him to let him join his crew. After Shanks rescued Luffy from a kidnapper, he and his crew permanently left the boy’s hometown, but he gave Luffy his Straw Hat, telling him to return it one day. sometime when you become a great pirate. From this humble origin as a gift from Shanks, the Straw Hat became Luffy’s representative and achieved some mysteries of his own. One of these mysteries is what it would look like as a human, which series creator Eiichiro Oda addressed in one of the manga’s later volumes.
The Straw Hat’s Terrible Human Form Shows One Piece’s Humor
In SBS chapter #978 of One Piece, a fan asked Oda what the Straw Hat would look like as a human. Oda gave the answer to this in a hilariously grotesque illustration of an ugly old man. Fittingly, some of the old man’s features are reminiscent of the Straw Hat’s design, with high cheekbones resembling the shape of the hat. The drawing includes some awesome Easter eggs including a scar caused by Buggy damaging it. Although the drawing is generally pretty bad, the old man depicted says that he will never leave Luffy’s side no matter what, which is surprising.
Luffy’s personification of Straw Hat fits perfectly with One Piece’s sense of humor. The grotesque character design can be offensive, but looking through this Hat has a very uplifting and emotional message. It also makes the hat a perfect fit for Luffy’s crew, many of which have bizarre and goofy designs. And of course, the message of loyalty perfectly reflects the close relationship of the Straw Hats, who would do anything for each other. So despite how scary its design is, this Straw Hat version is actually the perfect personification of it.
It is unlikely that the Straw Hat’s human form will appear in the One Piece story itself, although Oda has incorporated other drawings from SBS into the story in the past, such as the Shichibukai as a child later developing. Become One Piece’s new strongest villain. Seraphim. Even if it never actually appears in the story itself, it’s still an interesting theory to see. So while Straw hatThe human form can be scary, it’s still a perfect reflection of humor A piecesensitive.
