Garp’s Cross Guild Bounty is equivalent to Luffy after defeating Kaido
Garp’s invasion of Blackbeard’s Pirate Island showed the formidable power of the Marines. Infiltrating the island from an aerial ship may have confirmed Luffy’s great influence over his grandfather in One Piece. However, his powerful attack that destroyed a large part of the island impressed readers and the unfortunate pirates who had to fight him. After years of becoming fierce rivals, Garp and the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, teamed up to take down the deadliest pirate crew in history, The Rocks Pirates. After somehow defeating the young Kaido, Big Mom, Whitebeard, and their captain, Rocks D. Xebec, Garp is considered a great hero. He was offered the rank of Admiral several times. However, he refused each time because he wanted to avoid having to work directly under the Celestial Dragons. All of his accomplishments led to a reputation that earned him a 3 billion berry bounty, which his grandson achieved within a few years of becoming a pirate.
Garp took decades to accomplish what Luffy has been doing for years
The Marineford Arc sees Luffy and Garp clash as the Straw Hat Captain tries to save his adopted brother Ace’s life. Garp’s complicated position placed him between a rock and a hard place, eventually causing him to hesitate in taking down Luffy, resulting in him receiving a Gear 2 punch in the face. Years later, Luffy has improved his punches and standing in the One Piece world to the point of becoming the Pirate Emperor with his own fleet.
