In a recent interview with the cast of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, the two main voice actors revealed their expectations for the next installment of the series. In particular, Makoto Furukawa, the voice actor for protagonist Ash Phoenix, stated that the series' conclusion left “a lot of room for more.”
In an interview with Comic Natalie, the lead voice actors of Ash Phoenix (Makoto Furukawa) and Rozé (Kohei Amasaki) from Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture discussed their thoughts on the series' conclusion and the potential for a sequel. When asked about their message to viewers of the series on Disney+, including both new viewers and returning fans, both voice actors expressed their hope that viewers will find the same love for Rozé of the Recapture as it did for its predecessor, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Rozé of the Recapture team hopes this series receives as much love as Rebellion's Lelouch.
“The staff and many others, including the producer, Mr. Taniguchi, felt the potential [for Rozé of the Recapture] become a major character in the future of the Code Geass series,” Furukawa declared. “To prove that Rozé of the Recapture is on par with Lelouch of the Rebellion, you [the viewer’s] Power is indispensable, so I would appreciate it if you could spread your work as one of the 'Code Geass.'”
The “indispensable power” that Furukawa mentioned could refer to viewership and critical response from home viewers, as these will be the main factors in determining whether the Code Geass anime series will continue. Furukawa also stated that “the direction and dialogue leave a lot of room for a sequel.” He specifically emphasized this in the character’s emotions in the series’ ending scene, adding, “Just[ting a] The director said, 'Please cry more.' When I think about why, I believe crying more here will lead to the future of the series.”
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion was originally produced as a standalone anime series released in 2006, later receiving a second season, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 in 2009. The series would go on to have various manga and light novel adaptations before the release of a three-part Code Geass compilation film—Initiation, Transgression, and Glorification—that was released in theaters in 2017. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection was released in 2019 as an alternate universe of the original Code Geass storyline, with Rozé of the Recapture serving as a direct sequel. The various adaptations, spin-offs, and alternate universes of Code Geass have built up a loyal fanbase, which will be greatly expanded with the release of Rozé on Disney+, its latest installment.
In response to the interviewer's comment that, “I feel everyone's motivation for the sequel [to Rozé of the Recapture]”Furakawa replied, “Of course, I'm looking forward to it.”
