Henjo – Strange high school girl Amaguri Senko
I’m often surprised at the garbage that’s licensed and the other stuff that isn’t. That’s the case Henjo ~Strange high school girl AMAGURI Senko~. is not licensed, although its spin-off series Eroko-san on the Attack is (by a small, digital-only company and their rubbish system). However, I like manga Eroko-san so I think I finally read the original title.
The Story, in Brief (Mild spoilers)
Childhood friends TAKAMURA Ryou and SUGITA Kouhei are looking for work when they encounter a blunt, brazen female high school student cleaning the boys’ bathroom. A month later, the two boys interviewed at Handyman Amaguri for work-at-home jobs. To their surprise, the girl AMAGURI Senko is there, the owner’s high school daughter. The boys take the job, although Ryou has to check in next to Senko. Since she can sense when men have erections and when people “meditate,” she asked him not to do that and bother her while she was “meditating.”
While Ryou struggles to figure out if Senko doesn’t care about him, things get a little more complicated when Ryou’s cousin and childhood friend, SETO Ruka, shows up. She has romantic feelings for “Ryou-nii” and is unhappy that he lives in a house with an attractive high school girl. However, Ruka ends up becoming Senko’s first female friend when Senko attends a male-only commercial high school there. Thanks to Senko’s influence, Ruka becomes a bit bolder.
As time passes, more characters are introduced, including members of Senko’s manga club and a shy ojousama who admires Senko’s personality and wishes to have the same, strange skills that Senko does. Meanwhile, housekeeping must continue and Ryou realizes that it’s nearly impossible to embarrass Senko, but that’s part of what makes her attractive to him.

For me, what makes manga interesting is Senko. This is a character who doesn’t care what people think of him. She’ll say what’s on her mind, period. Thus, she violated conventional conventions by bluntly asking the boys not to look at her sexually. And then, when she senses they’re getting excited, she embarrasses them by pointing it out.
That brings us to the romantic angle between Senko and Ryou. Some people would object to 23-year-old Ryou having romantic and sexual feelings (even if he denied it for some time) with a high school girl. This doesn’t bother me because I don’t forget my high school years, when girls longed for guys in their early 20s to notice them. However, Ryou is a virgin and a nice guy so he won’t have sex with Senko. That said, at times, he wanted to disrupt Senko’s unfazed demeanor.
And so, it is this unique element that makes this romantic comedy all the more enjoyable even though the constant discussions about penises are a bit tiring at times. It’s refreshing to see a female character like Senko who isn’t a wilting purple. Yet, at her core, she is completely female.
Spinoffs
The ojousama Riri, who admires Senko, got her own short spinoff series The honest princess and the negative prince. And although it doesn’t have many pages, there is a manga about what I believe is an adult Senko dealing with a boss who sexually harasses female employees.
Putting that aside, since Konogi-sensei is often distracted by these other games, that means Henjo can be interrupted for weeks or even months. That’s a shame, but I like Sensei’s other works. As I write this, Eroko-san is temporarily closed and Henjo New chapters are coming.
Final thoughts and conclusion >
Through the 119 chapters of this seinen manga, Henjo ~Weird High School Girl AMAGURI Senko~ quite interesting despite the focus on male anatomy. There’s a lot of humor and a surprisingly wholesome romance at the core of the story despite the perverse veneer. What’s strange to me is that no one licensed it.
