The production team for the live-action adaptation of Sōichirō Yamamoto’s Tease Master Takagi-san (Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san) manga has announced the main cast, production team, and March 2024 global premiere. on Netflix (before its Japanese TV debut) on Wednesday.

Rui Tsukishima (model for Shueisha’s Seventeen magazine, guest actress of Kamen Rider Geats episode) and teenager Sōya Kurokawa (Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Monster) play Takagi and Nishikata, respectively. The live-action series was filmed entirely on location in Kagawa Prefecture’s Shōdo Island, the setting of the previous anime adaptation.
Rikiya Imaizumi (live-action Hōzuki-san Chi no Aneki, Chihiro-san, Just Only Love) is directing and co-writing the script with Tomoki Kanazawa (Sanctuary, Sabakan) and Jun Hagimori (Sabakan). TBS co-produced with FINE Entertainment.
The film will premiere on Netflix every Tuesday next March, with an international release expected. The drama will then air during TBS’s Drama Stream programming block on Tuesdays at 11:58 p.m. (actually Wednesdays at 12:58 a.m. JST).

Yen Press is releasing the manga in English and describes the story:
High school student Nishikata had it out with his classmate sitting nearby, Takagi. Day after day, she chased him with all kinds of tricks and jokes. Even when he tries to tease her, she is always one step ahead but he will not give up easily in this battle between cunning and youth!
Yamamoto will end the manga on October 12.
Yamamoto launched the manga in Gessan mini, a companion volume in Shogakukan’s Gessan (Monthly Shonen Sunday) magazine in 2013. After Yamamoto finished serializing his Fudatsuki no Kyōko-chan manga in Gessan in June 2016, Yamamoto he teased Takagi-san’s transfer to Gessan in July 2016. Shogakukan published the manga’s 19th compiled book volume on March 10. Yen Press published the 17th compiled book volume in April.
The first television anime based on the manga premiered in the show “Anime no Me” in January 2018, which also adapted Yamamoto’s Ashita wa Doyōbi manga into segments within the show. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed the series with an English dub. The second anime television season premiered in July 2019. The season debuted on Netflix in December 2019.
The third season of the television anime, Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san 3 (Teasing Master Takagi-san 3), premiered on MBS and TBS’s Super Animeism Block in January 2022. Tease Master Takagi-san: The Movie (Gekijōban Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san), the franchise’s anime film, opened in Japan in June 2022.
Sentai Filmworks licensed the third season and film, and streamed the third season on HIDIVE. HIDIVE also streamed an English dub for the third season, which featured the returning cast from Funimation’s original dub of the anime’s first season. Sentai Filmworks released the film in the US in August 2022.
