Kyoto Animation has issued a public warning about the emergence of fraudulent websites misusing the studio's name.
In a statement released on their official website on November 4, 2024, Kyoto Animation noted that it had recently identified websites falsely claiming to be affiliated with the company.
“We recently confirmed the existence of websites that use our company name but are completely unrelated to us. Please be careful. If you see anything suspicious, please check the address of the website in question,” the company said.
The studio also provides authentic URLs to help fans verify legitimate sources of information and content.
“The address of the website operated by our company is as follows: https://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp.”
Kyoto Animation has produced films and anime series including The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2006), Clannad (2007), K-On! (2009), >Nichijou (2011), Free of charge! (2013), Sound! Euphonium (2015), A Silent Voice (2016) et Violet Evergarden (2018).
The studio recently announced an anime adaptation of Keiichi Arawi's CITY manga and an anime film for Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.
These projects come after a challenging period for Kyoto Animation. On July 18, 2019, the studio faced a devastating arson attack on the Studio 1 building, killing 36 people and injuring 33 others.
The incident was one of the bloodiest massacres in Japan's post-war history and sent shock waves throughout the global anime community.
The suspected arsonist was arrested and, after recovering from injuries sustained in the incident, was officially arrested. After the trial, the arsonist was sentenced to death.
The studio prioritizes supporting the victims and their families, while focusing on rebuilding and continuing their creative endeavors.
Kyoto Animation's productions were initially paused after the attack, and the outbreak of the pandemic further delayed their projects.
As a new comeback after the two-year aftershock of the tragedy, the studio resumed its production activities with the release of the second season of Miss Kobayashi's dragon maid.
