The original manga series was written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Nomura. It first launched in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine on August 1, 2018, and has released 30 tankobon volumes as of August 2024, with the 31st volume due out on October 17, 2024. Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English for North America.
The manga was adapted into a 24-episode television anime, with the second season titled BLUE LOCK VS. U-20 JAPAN is scheduled to open on October 5, 2024. It also inspired a spin-off titled Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, which received its own anime film this year.
Kodansha USA describes Blue Lock's premise as:

The Football Association is determined to create a striker who is hungry for goals and hungry for victory, and can be the decisive tool to turn the losing game around…and to do that, they have gathered 300 Japan's best and brightest young players.
