Ahead of the premiere of King the Land’s upcoming series, the latest Korean romantic comedy is adapted from the webtoon from Kakao Entertainment.
According to Redbeanime, the JTBC network has partnered with Kakao Entertainment for a branded webtoon manga, based on the upcoming K-drama TV series King the Land. Illustrated by artist Spoon, the prequel webcomic is expected to expand on the drama by including companion stories that revolve around the main storyline. Kakao Entertainment dropped seven chapters of manhwa King the Land, depicting the first meeting of the main characters Gu Won and Sarang.
King the Land was created by Cheon Sung-il, with Im Hyun-wook and Choi Rom serving as director and screenwriter respectively. The film tells the unlikely love story of Gu Won and Cheon Sa-rang. Gu Won is the heir and general manager of his family’s King Hotel hotel empire, known for his disdain for people with fake smiles. He will find himself clashing with one of his employees, the bubbly Sarang, who is known for his irresistible smile. As their relationship develops, Gu Won must also engage in a fierce inheritance war.
Who is the actor of the series King the Land
King the Land will be led by K-Pop idols turned 2PM’s Lee Jun-ho as Gu Won and Girls’ Generation’s Im YoonA as Cheon Sa-rang. In addition to being a member of one of the most successful K-Pop groups to date, YoonA is also recognized for her leading roles in popular K-dramas including You Are My Destiny, Love Rain, The K2 and Big Mouth. In addition to television projects, she also starred in blockbuster action comedies such as 2017’s Secret Mission and 2019’s Escape.
Unlike YoonA, Lee Jun-ho started his acting career much later with supporting roles in films such as Cold Eyes, The Terror Live and Memories of the Sword. In 2015, he starred in his first major film as one of the main characters in the coming-of-age film Twenty. He then starred in K-dramas including Good Manager, Rain or Shine, Wok of Love and The Red Sleeve, which further made him a real male lead.
In addition to Lee Jun-ho and Im YoonA, the film also stars Go Won-hee as Pyung-hwa, Sa-rang’s best friend, Ahn Se-ha as Gu Won’s secretary Sang-sik, Son Byong-ho as Gu Won Il-hoon’s father. Kim Seon-young as Gu-Won’s older sister Hwa-ran, Nam Gi-ae as Gu-Won’s mother Mi-so and veteran actor Kim Young-ok as Sa-rang Soon’s grandmother -hee.
King the Land premieres June 17, exclusively on Netflix in select regions.
