New information has emerged about the upcoming third season of Kimi ni Todoke – From Me To You, revealing the staff and additional cast for the surprise sequel. Also included are character images, a series highlight video recapping the first two seasons, and a birthday illustration of the manga author Karuho Shiina for female protagonist Sawako Kuronuma.
Kenichi Matsuzawa (Noblesse Awakening) is directing Kimi ni Todoke – From Me To You Part 3 with series production from Tomoko Konparu (Kimi ni Todoke – From Me To You) and character design from Keiko Oota (co-designer of the Tokyo Revengers characters) and Yuka Shibata (Kimi ni Todoke – From Me To You). The first season of Kimi ni Todoke – From Me To You premiered in 2009 and was 25 episodes long, while the second season premiered in 2011 and was 13 episodes long. The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine from 2006 to 2017 and ended with 30 tankoubon volumes. Viz Media describes this teen romance manga as follows:
Sawako Kuronuma is the perfect heroine…for a horror movie. With striking similarities to the haunting film character – jet black hair, sinister smile and silent demeanor – she is mistakenly called Sadako by those around her. But behind her scary exterior lies a very misunderstood teenager. Too shy to fit in, all she wants to do is make friends. But when the most popular boy in class befriends her, she’s bound to gain more than that – she’s about to make some enemies!
The manga inspired a spin-off titled Unmei no Hito that ran from 2018 to 2022 and was compiled into three tankoubon volumes. It also inspired a 2010 live-action film and a 2023 Netflix live-action adaptation.
