Naoya Matsumoto's Kaiju 8 manga began serialization in July 2020 in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ and has since been collected into 13 volumes as of July 2024. Viz Media has licensed the series in English in North America, and they describe the story:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and fight alongside her. But while she's neutralizing Kaiju as captain of the Third Division, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of his battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible to join the Self-Defense Forces, he decides to try out for the team again. There's just one problem—he's already on the Self-Defense Forces' neutralization list, codenamed Kaiju No. 8.
In addition to the sequel, a Kaiju 8 video game for the series is also in development.
