What happened in Kaiju #8 Episode #8
Produced by Production IG; Directed by Haruo Okuno
In Kaiju issue #8 episode #8, “Welcome to the Self-Defense Forces”, Kafka is forced to fight Deputy Hoshina, and between Kafka's unwillingness to hurt him and Hoshina's inhuman abilities, Kafka was quickly in danger of death. . However, thanks to Kafka's quick thinking, Kafka was able to disarm Hoshina and escape the battle unharmed before returning to the Self-Defense Forces. Operation Sagamihara ended afterward, and Hoshina was left wondering why Kaiju No. 8 behaved so differently from regular Kaiju, despite its incredible power.
The next day, Haruichi Izumo used his wealth and connections to throw the Third Team a large party to celebrate their first mission, the group bonded even more tightly when they review things they could have improved. During the celebration, Hoshina announced that thanks to the support he provided throughout the mission, Kafka was promoted after his time as a cadet and is now a full member of the Self-Defense Forces. Everyone congratulates Kafka on his promotion, and later, even Mina gives Kafka a little congratulations for his efforts.
Later, Kafka comes across Hoshina reenacting their fight, and while Hoshina is unaware of it, Kafka is extremely scared by the way Hoshina talks about him being able to kill Kaiju No. 8. However However, Kafka thanks Hoshina for trusting him and promises to support him, a promise Hoshina wholeheartedly accepts. While all that is going on, the episode ends with the reveal that another humanoid Kaiju was commanding a fleet of flying Kaiju and headed towards the city.
Kaiju No. 8 needs to be careful about its pacing
The story moves too quickly, to the detriment of its world-building
The ending of Kaiju #8 episode #8 teases another big battle, but one needs to be careful in how it's handled. With the Sagamihara arc just ending, the story could easily use this time for more world-building and character development, but if it rushes into a new story arc, then Kaiju number 8 You may risk making your world feel underdeveloped by prioritizing action, and that will make it difficult to stay invested in the plot. There's no telling how episode #9 will play out, but hopefully it finds a way to balance things out.
Kaiju #8 Issue #8 did a great job of pushing the series forward
Cooldowns are just as important as actions
Kafka and Hoshina's fight isn't ultimately the main event of Kaiju issue #8, but it's still great to watch nonetheless. As expected of Production IG, Kafka and Hoshina's fight has extremely beautiful and smooth animation, all of which showed Hoshina's strength very well. The effect of that was lessened a bit when Kafka deliberately refrained from killing Hoshina, but he still clearly earned his role in the series.
After the battle, Kaiju No. 8 switched to focusing primarily on the ending and it did a great job of it. Everyone bonding together after the mission was great given the seriousness of the past few episodes, and even though it may have been a little quick, Kafka's status as a full member of the Self-Defense Forces is a much-needed reward for his journey., just as everyone was happy about his promotion. The story looks like it's gearing up to have more action but hopefully won't forget to prioritize fun character moments like that.
As for character moments, episode #8 has an interesting moment with Haruichi. One scene at the party has Haruichi talking about a common problem between his father and his family, but what's really interesting is that the scene isn't in the manga, which seems to imply that Kaiju issue #8 will add some characters that were largely overlooked in the manga. Despite some criticism of the current direction of Kaiju No. 8, still promises to have a lot of great content in the future.
Be sure to watch Kaiju number 8 episode #9 when released on Saturday, June 8.
