Studio Doga Kobo is now officially a subsidiary of Kadokawa, as announced today. The two companies have collaborated on anime production since titles like Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, and the press release highlights the impact of the recent Oshi no Ko adaptation, not only in Japan but also overseas.
Studio Doga Kobo was founded on July 11, 1973 – exactly 51 years ago. It was founded by Toei Animation members Hideo Furusawa and Megumu Ishiguro. The current president is Ryu Ishiguro. In addition to the currently ongoing Oshi no Ko Season 2, the studio is also adapting Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian this season. It is known for titles such as New Game!, Yuru Yuri ♪♪, Himouto! Umaru-chan, How Heavy is the Dumbbell You Lift?, and more.
KADOKAWA currently has six studio subsidiaries: in addition to Doga Kobo, there are ENGI, Studio Kadan (specializing in 3DCG), Raging Bull, the recently established Bellnox Films, and the subsidiary Kinema Citrus (Kadokawa is co-owned by Bushiroad and Muneki Ogasawara). In its mid-term plan, Kadokawa announced that as “an animation business strategy, which is the core of the media mix, [họ] aims to maximize the value of intellectual property with anime as the core by expanding the production line and enhancing the production capacity of [họ]thereby building a system that allows [họ] continuously creating attractive anime works.
Kadokawa is currently recovering from a cyberattack that shut down Niconico's services and severely affected the operations of several divisions within the company.
