Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Jujutsu Kaisen: Thorny Road at Dawn Just in time for the Golden Week pause, Viz Media has quietly released the second volume of the series Jujutsu Kaisen light novel series with content Nobara Kugisaki. While fans wait for the second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime and the next chapter of the manga, the new novel will give fans plenty of content to explore.
The new light novel, titled, Jujutsu Kaisen: Thorny Road at Dawn, is written by Ballad Kitaguni, who happens to be also the author of the first light novel Jujutsu Kaisen: Summer of Ashes, Autumn of Dust; and illustrated by Gege Akutami, creator of Jujutsu Kaisen. The novel is available directly from Viz Media, as well as most available booksellers including Amazon and Barnes & Nobel. However, buyers will receive a slight discount if purchased through Viz Media. Just like the first volume, Thorny Road Dawn consists of five interrelated short stories that provide additional character development, setting, and setting for the events taking place in the manga.
Nobara is the Main Hero of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Hard Road at Dawn
Since the cover of Thorny Road at Dawn features Nobara’s image, the first story in the volume follows her interactions with the second-year students, including Toge Inumaki, on the eve of her competition. They were with Jujutsu Kyoto High School, an event that is intriguingly described in the “Kyoto Goodwill Event” section of the manga. It’s a delightful short story in which the impulsive and talkative Nobara tries to converse with the quiet, intelligent Toge. Hidden in their attempts at a conversation, readers learn a lot about both characters not depicted in the manga or anime. For instance, readers learn about Nobara’s home village and how oppressive life can be for some of her abilities and desires. Nobara also has a chance to connect with Toge, which is an interesting pairing that neither the anime nor the manga have explored much.
While the information in the story is not required to understand the manga, knowing it will help the reader understand it more deeply and interact. It’s the kind of information that, once learned, makes the story so much more interesting and engaging. While Nobara seems to be the main character in the episode, aside from Toge, fans can expect to find Panda, Maki, Yuji, Megumi, and Mai in the stories.
The most interesting thing about the Jujutsu Kaisen light novel series is that they help make Akutami’s complicated famous story easier to understand. Furthermore, with this particular episode, it was great to reconnect with Nobara, who most people would agree is going to die before her time. Getting to know the basics is helpful, but even more exciting is getting more content about fan-favorite characters like Nobara who may never appear again in Jujutsu Kaisen story.
