The season 2 premiere of Jujutsu Kaisen was full of surprises, most notably showing a heroic version of the despicable villain Suguru Geto.
Warning! Contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1!
While Suguru Geto could be one of Jujutsu Kaisenhis biggest villain, the show’s second season is revealing that he actually has some heroic origins. This is surprising given how despicable Geto was in the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen and the movie. However, this personality change also hints that Geto will go through a protagonist arc this season to become the villain fans know him to be.
During the premiere of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, Geto and Gojo have a philosophical debate about whether the strong should protect the weak. Geto believes that it is the duty of powerful wizards to protect humans and weaker witches from the Curse, while Gojo disagrees. Geto’s beliefs in this matter are actually so strong that he almost got into a fight with Gojo before the two were interrupted by Yaga, who gave them the Star Plasma Ship Mission. This whole exchange is surprising given what fans know about how Gojo and Geto behave later in their lives.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shows Fans Another Side of Geto
As Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 kicks off with a flashback, fans benefit from knowing how Gojo and Geto’s relationship will ultimately play out. In Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the show’s very first season, Geto is a villain who wants to kill all the powerless and empower the Curse. In contrast, Gojo became the nurturer of the next generation of Jujutsu witches to help them protect the weak against curses that would try to kill them. Somehow, in the period between the beginning of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen and the events of the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Geto and Gojo’s philosophy completely changed from what was shown in the premiere. .
It’s hard to imagine what could cause such a drastic change in opinion, but it could be traced back to the events of the quest that Gojo and Geto are about to embark on. Perhaps having to take care of someone weaker than me would change Gojo’s philosophy of protecting those weaker than him. On the contrary, it is possible that the extremes Geto will have to go through in order to protect the Star Plasma Vessel will spur him on to the idea of protecting the weak. The disgust he has for his own cursed technique in the premiere’s opening narrative may well have played a role in the shift in his philosophy.
Jujutsu Kaisen needs to show how Geto becomes a Devil in Season 2
After showing how different Geto used to be, Jujutsu Kaisen needs to show what he has become to provide him with a satisfying character arc. Given how great the start to the season is, if MAPPA continues to maintain that level of quality, they will almost certainly be able to explain this change satisfactorily. This means that Jujutsu Kaisenseason two will not only be a great window into Gojo’s earlier school days but also an exploration of what motivated slumthe evil deeds of
