Warning! Contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 7!
First half of Jujutsu KaisenThe second season hinted at the potential the second half could have but a surprising fight proved that the anime is delivering on that promise and going beyond it. With the incredible amount of fan anticipation for the iconic Shibuya Incident arc, this is an extremely good sign that these expectations will be met. However, Studio MAPPA somehow found a way to exceed those expectations right from the first battle of the new episodes.
Season 2 Episode 7 of Jujutsu Kaisen focuses on Mechamaru’s battle with Mahito’s curse. This was a relatively minor battle that helped set up the Shibuya incident. Mechamaru is a fun character, but considering Mahito’s role as the main antagonist, the outcome of the fight is never really in doubt. Even so, MAPPA puts its best foot forward in battle, adding anime-original scenes, such as a series of rapid transformations as Mahito flees from Mechamaru’s attacks. All of this makes the fight a lot better than it was in the manga and signals that the upcoming battles in Shibuya will be even better.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s latest fight hints at better things to come
The Shibuya Incident was filled with incredible battles. Jujutsu Kaisen is famous for having revolutionary battles, but some of the battles in the Shibuya Incident arc put other clashes in the series to shame. Mechamaru vs. Mahito proves this – while the fight itself doesn’t count as a major duel in the grand scheme of things, its impact on the other characters is incredibly powerful. Therefore, fans will not be too upset if MAPPA only adjusts the match to a minimum level. That they did not do so is a testament to their dedication to adapting the manga and the talent of the animators working in the studio.
Of course, the episodes before this one also hinted at MAPPA’s passion for the series. In episode 6, they created an original anime trailer for Human Earthworm 4 to show they really understand the humor of the series. Jujutsu Kaisen also preserves a seemingly inconsequential moment between Yuji and a former classmate that serves to emphasize his kindness, while further developing his dynamic with Nobara and Fushiguro. In a series that revolves around battles, these early positive signs aren’t all there is. However, with this fight between Mahito and Mechamaru, Jujutsu Kaisen finally proved that it would do justice to the entire battle of the Shibuya Incident.
The Shibuya Incident Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen is going to be amazing
Until more episodes air, there’s always the possibility that MAPPA could handle the battles as they actually become animated. However, given the studio’s incredible track record, this seems extremely unlikely. So the Mahito vs Mechamaru fight is a great sign for the rest of the series Jujutsu KaisenLatest season of.
