The anime adaptation played a key role in Jujutsu Kaisen's dominance. For example, last year's semiannual rankings ranked Blue Lock No. 1 with sales of more than 8 million. Chainsaw Man ranked second with nearly 4 and a half million. The impact of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is also clear overseas, with US sales data revealing that Jujutsu Kaisen Volumes 16 to 21 all ranked in the top 20 best-selling adult graphic novels in the month immediately following its conclusion — all of which included a continuation of the anime-up “Killing Game” storyline.
One Piece remains one of the best-selling series of all time
While Jujutsu Kaisen and Frieren are currently in a two-horse race, the rankings will likely look very different by the end of the year, as Frieren and Shogakukan's The Apothecary Diaries have both gone on hiatus. While the latter will return this summer, Frieren's hiatus is indefinite. Both are also buoyed by their anime adaptations, along with Mashle, whose average sales reportedly increased tenfold thanks to Season 2. Although it's unclear whether My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen will continue in However, the final episodes often bring in bumper sales, with Jujutsu Kaisen likely to continue to end in 2024 according to creator Gege Akutami. As always, the warm reception by One Piece fans will likely put the series near the top by year's end, behind only the Harry Potter series as the best-selling fantasy series of all time.
