Warning: Contains spoilers for chapter #244 of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Summary
Megumi’s fate in Jujutsu Kaisen is uncertain, but there are two possible outcomes: he may be alive but incapacitated, or he may have died when Sukuna took possession of his body . Even if Megumi was still alive, he might be in a bad place emotionally and mentally. The burden he bears and the deaths he witnesses will take a toll on him. Despite her current state, Megumi still has a role to play in the story. He is capable of unleashing the full power of his technique, which could be crucial in the battle against Sukuna.
After keeping the final chapters a secret from fans, Jujutsu Kaisen has finally revealed the fate of Sukuna’s new ship, the Megumi, and it could go in one of two directions. Megumi’s fate has remained uncertain ever since Sukuna was forced to transfer vessels, and the recent revelation of Sukuna’s true form has only increased suspicion. Luckily, the latest chapter suggests that there may still be hope for Megumi, however slim it may be.
In chapter #244 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Higuruma mentions two possible outcomes for Megumi when discussing the possible crimes Sukuna could be convicted of using his Curse Jutsu. According to Higuruma, Megumi may still be alive but incapacitated, or he may be dead, with Sukuna possessing his body. This would allow Higuruma to sue Sukuna for injury or murder and illegal possession of a corpse.
While this chapter doesn’t directly confirm Megumi’s condition, it does present fans with two possible outcomes, suggesting that there may still be hope for Megumi to return at some point in the series. upcoming story.

Sukuna’s true form in Jujutsu Kaisen is the ultimate insult to Gojo
Sukuna was eventually reincarnated in Jujutsu Kaisen, and his true form proves that the war against Gojo may have been decided from the start.
Megumi is still alive but appears to be in poor condition
Even if Megumi was still alive after Sukuna’s rebirth, he would likely be in a bad state both emotionally and mentally after the deaths of Tsumiki and Gojo, as well as the battle against Gojo. Megumi was forced to bear the Infinite Infinite load five times along with Mahoraga’s adaptive burden, which would have left him in a vegetative state for the time being.
However, it seems doubtful that Sukuna’s reincarnation completely killed Megumi’s soul, as he did not get a proper ending. While Jujutsu Kaisen has never shied away from killing off main characters or fan favorites and has a long history of ambiguous deaths (look no further than Nobara, the whose name is still unconfirmed as of the Shibuya Arc), it seems like the series won’t be like that. completely denying Megumi’s death. Furthermore, despite being one of the characters that Gege Akutami personally dislikes, even Gojo’s death comes with some sort of closure.

Chapter #236 of Jujutsu Kaisen broke many hearts but also unintentionally raised hopes for the return of one of the series’ most beloved characters.
Megumi still has a role in Jujutsu Kaisen
Despite his current condition, Megumi’s character in Jujutsu Kaisen is still incomplete. Even though he went down without a fight after Tsumiki’s death, it will be interesting to see Megumi finally fight against Sukuna and try to get revenge on him. Furthermore, it could be argued that Megumi has not yet fully realized the potential of the Ten Shadow Techniques. While Yuji seems like the obvious choice for Sukuna’s ultimate opponent, Megumi’s involvement could finally allow him to reach this potential that the series has repeatedly teased.
All in all, the battle with Sukuna is quickly coming to a standstill, probably not for too much longer. Jujutsu Kaisen reveals Megumi’s fate and whether he will help change the situation against Sukuna. Hopefully fans may not have to say goodbye to Megumi right now.
