Summary
Jujutsu Kaisen is famous for setting up mysteries that keep fans speculating, and one of the most intriguing questions is how Yuji Itadori stopped Sukuna from taking over his body. The Shibuya Incident arc revealed a surprising twist, with the real mastermind behind the plot being an ancient jujutsu wizard named Kenjaku, who possessed Geto’s body. However, Geto was momentarily able to resist the possession after Gojo’s sincere plea. This may be a hint as to why Itadori was able to resist Sukuna’s possession at the start of the series, as at that time he had a strong desire to save his friends.
Jujutsu Kaisen is excellent at creating mysteries that have made fans wonder for a long time. The series has many mysteries left unanswered, such as why Yuta can still summon Rika or the requirements to achieve Domain Expansion, but one of the most intriguing so far is how Yuji Itadori was able to prevent Sukuna from completely taking over his body.
The Shibuya Incident arc has been incredible so far, with twists and turns that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. One of the most surprising plot twists in this part is the reveal of the real mastermind behind the plot in Shibuya. It was assumed that Geto was leading the operation, but it turned out to be an ancient jujutsu wizard, Kenjaku, who possessed Geto’s body after his death.
This revelation was shocking and it was clearly the center of attention, especially considering that it resulted in Gojo being sealed in the Prison Realm. However, behind this crazy reveal is a subtle hint that gives a clue as to why Itadori was able to resist Sukuna’s possession earlier in the series.
Geto’s resistance to Kenjaku’s control is reminiscent of Sukuna and Itadori
Without revealing too much about the manga’s content for anime-only viewers, Kenjaku has easily taken over the bodies of many people for hundreds of years. However, when Gojo begged Geto in episode #34, hoping he would hear and resist Kenjaku’s control, shockingly, Geto’s hand strangled Kenjaku, leaving him confused that his body His host body can gain control of even his arms. This scene shows how close Geto and Gojo are, but Geto fighting for control somehow explains that Itadori did not submit to Sukuna when he ate his fingers at the beginning of the series.
The reason Geto awakened and gained partial control was Gojo’s plea. Likewise, when Itadori ate his finger and Sukuna was reborn, his friends were all in danger and he risked his life to save them. Both Geto and Itadori gain control because they are trying to help their friends in need. An emotion so strong that wanting to save others seems necessary to resist being controlled by powerful curses. Although this theory has no evidence beyond these two cases, a pattern is emerging that cannot be ignored.
Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami has said quite a few times that he just makes things up as he goes along, most notably when it comes to the power system. This could be another case where he’s just taking liberties and not actually trying to suggest anything, so it’s important to give this theory some credence. However, Gege is very good at foreshadowing and is an excellent author, so it’s very likely that this scene was done on purpose. Hopefully before that Jujutsu Kaisen ends, he is finally able to explain exactly who Yuji Itadori is and how he was able to suppress Sukuna, the most powerful curse ever.
