Warning! This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 148 and onwards.Jujutsu Kaisen is a hugely successful anime and manga series with a stellar cast of characters. One of the most popular characters is Maki Zenin, a non-witch who left her family to seek revenge on them when they didn't trust her, determined to surpass her clan. She is respected by her classmates at the academy and undergoes some of the best female character development in the series. After the Shibuya Incident, the manga depicts her physical transformation, reflecting her tough attitude and growing anger.
One cosplayer, @kingrowletx, recreated one of Maki's best moments in a stunning cosplay. With burns and scars covering her body after her battle with Jogo, she chose to expose her arms in a new sleeveless uniform, winning the battle with her father, albeit at a great cost.
With artistic makeup to show off Maki's battle scars and a cleverly crafted prop, kingrowletx's cosplay highlights Maki's transformation and evokes her quiet, vengeful rage in this tragic and gripping tale that will satisfy the imagination of many fans.
Mai's final gift to Maki is on display.
The sword featured in the photos is exactly what Mai created for Maki in her final goodbye, adding the weight of that moment to the look. The sisters were victims of the Zenin clan and their father's heinous behavior. He left them for dead during a confrontation in Chapter 149, after revealing that he blamed them for his own failure to become the clan leader. In order to save her sister, Mai creates a weapon with the last of her power. She explains that she believes that only one of the twins can be granted a cursed technique, and that her death will allow Maki to fulfill her greatest wish.
This heavy moment is made all the more touching by being a rare display of love and sacrifice between the sisters, sending Maki spiraling as she carries out Mai’s final wish to “destroy everything.” Her rough design and aesthetic continually evolve throughout the arc, reflecting the emotional turmoil and rage Maki feels, at one point joking that Mai “took [her heart] with her”. This cosplay showcases this change very well, emphasizing the sword and showing off the armless look Maki sports after this bitter victory.
Toji Fushiguro and Maki have similar appearances and abilities.
Maki's appearance also begins to resemble Toji's, and her father instinctively remembers the fearsome and rejected former Zenin in battle and feels a similar level of fear towards Maki.
In the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Maki's appearance also begins to resemble Toji, and her father instinctively remembers the fearsome and rejected former Zenin in battle and feels a similar level of fear for Maki. It's only fitting that the two black sheep of the Zenin clan have similar jujutsu abilities and powers. For Maki's father and the reader, this is reinforced by Toji's historical battles and brutal brutality throughout the series. Maki's shorter hair, buff body, and hunger for battle all fit Toji perfectly, and this cosplay perfectly captures that.
While there are some aspects of Jujutsu Kaisen that can be a little difficult to translate, cosplayers like @kingrowletx have done a great job of emulating what a live-action version of these characters would look like to fans of the best-selling manga and anime series today. This Maki cosplay shows great attention to detail, with every aspect of the costume and even the setting being spot on. This look proves that Maki's coolest and most bittersweet designs could work extremely well in an action movie.
