Chapter 6 of JoJoLands introduced the Jojo element to the new series for the first time, and it proved that Araki is still as scary as ever.
Jojo’s fourth wall-bending stand is one of the series’ strangest
From an in-universe perspective, such an ability seems almost ridiculous as it requires knowledge the user should not have (namely how to create the frames of comic panels). It leans against the fourth wall, almost admitting that the story is just that, but it also opens up new artistic opportunities., which mangaka Hirohiko Araki did not hesitate to embrace. By combining subject matter and backgrounds, Araki creates some very unique views, most notably the scene of the man attacking Jodio’s sibling, Dragona Joestar, in which the attacker blends into the clouds, buildings and a flock of birds.
Weird Stand abilities are hardly new to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, but few previous Stand abilities have played so deftly with the fourth wall. It’s clear that this special Stand ability, while nearly unparalleled in stealth, doesn’t offer much offensive potential, so the user will be fighting directly with a knife. It appears to use sand particles in some way to aid in the camouflage process, although the exact role of the sand constantly sloughing off its opponents is unknown. Some fans suspect the sand could be a hint that the user is a Stone Person, a type introduced in season 8, Jojolion.
This new platform-based Stand joins the ranks of many other strange abilities, such as a radio tower that holds exactly one person inside of it, a Stand that requires the user to die before activating, and a to bring fictional characters to life. Of course, these incredibly strange powers are exactly what Jojo fans have been looking for, and they’ve become the most iconic elements of the series. It will be interesting to see how this enemy continues to use his abilities in the next chapter of the story. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventureand what other creative tricks can lead to.
