One of the world’s largest fast food chains is teaming up with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure to produce some special themed meals.
The reveal came via X (formerly Twitter), where a Chinese ad for KFC highlighted several characters from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, including Jotaro and Jolyne Kujo and the stands Theirs are Star Platinum and Stone Ocean. Other characters such as Ermes Costello and Foo Fighters also appeared in the commercial.
JoJo Can Stand KFC
While many may consider this an odd move for KFC, the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain has done a lot of advertising over the years to attract more attention to the brand. Some are simply food-based, such as creating chicken-flavored chocolate truffles or making Valentine’s Day gifts out of your meals. What’s even stranger is that the chain also produces a “chicken clothing line,” chicken-scented sunscreen, a “romance novel” with a fictionalized version of Colonel Sanders, and a Lifetime movie called Recipe for Seduction, starring movie/TV star Mario. Lopez is like the “romantic version” of Colonel Sanders.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the most popular manga/anime titles due to the longevity and freshness of the series thanks to its numerous storylines or “episodes”. The series began in 1987 and followed the Joestar family, starting with Jonathan Joestar. Overall, the series focuses on the war between the Joestar family through its various members and the human-turned-vampire monster, Dio. Dio and his descendants continually haunt the Joestar family, but in the end, JoJo always comes out on top.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean is the final plot of JoJo’s story in the main story. Season 6, as it is known, resets the entire universe and takes place events from 1989, when Jonathan Joestar and Dio’s origin story took place. However, the characters no longer have the same name. For example, Jolyne is now Irene and Dio does not exist. According to series creator Hirohiko Araki, the need for a reboot was due to his belief that Stone Ocean was the “peak” of his creativity for that original continuity. Even with the reset, three more installments of the series were still in the works.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean in collaboration with KFC begins on October 27 in China.
