Popular Japanese anime store Animate Times has released its most anticipated anime of Winter 2024, with voting ending on December 25.
CBR reported on Animate Times’ preliminary results for the most anticipated anime of 2024 two weeks ago. Since then, a huge swing in votes has helped Mashle Season 2 take the top spot for upcoming series premieres. Mashle’s second season trailer teases the upcoming “Divine Vision Selection Exam,” building up the hype for season 2 by introducing said Divine Visions. More than 60 anime were shortlisted, of which Animate Times only announced the top 15, the full list can be seen below.

Most notably, Kingdom Season 5 was dropped from the rankings entirely after previously holding the 10th spot. Other notable exclusions were Subordinate Characters Tomozaki and Ishura, the latter of whom ranked tops the prestigious Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi list in 2021. This is often seen as a show of great confidence in the success of the series, with past winners including Class of the Elite, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, Sword Art Online and My Youth Romantic Comedy Wrong, just as I expected. Meanwhile, Chained Soldier’s online popularity doesn’t translate into votes, and even MAPPA’s reputation can’t support its upcoming Bucchigiri?! cartoon. Bucchigiri nearby?! The trailer is reminiscent of some classic anime styles of the 2000s, leaving many Tokyo Revengers fans ready to check it out.
