The late author Akira Toriyama was famous for always giving second chances to certain characters, including the iconic Vegeta. The story of the return of the Saiyan prince is very special, standing out among other names like Yamcha and Krillin. Vegeta’s revival has a lot to do with fan love.
In the main Dragon Ball storyline, Vegeta has died a total of three times, not counting the alternate timelines and non-canon adventures of Dragon Ball GT. Every time the “rau brother” returns there is a reason, whether it is thanks to a wish with a magical dragon, or Whis’s time trick.
Influence from fans
A special one-page comic strip, made for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, sheds light on a very real reason: fans’ affection for Vegeta.

In this special edition, Akira Toriyama draws himself alongside Goku, Vegeta and Frieza, learning about the specialties that went into the creation of the series. Vegeta has always been straightforward, saying that Toriyama was afraid of disappointing his fans by ending him forever. Frieza even joked that his own death was a necessary sacrifice to keep Vegeta alive. And clearly Toriyama agrees, as the author does not dispute the accusation.
Vegeta always has a special place in the hearts of fans. In many cases, this is not enough to save a character. But the passion that audiences have for the Saiyan prince goes further, ensuring his important role in Dragon Ball over the years, even though he was not initially considered a main character.
His path to redemption and rivalry with Goku are some of the highlights of the series, making his death (and resurrection) notable moments.
