The biggest Chirstmas Granada debate that has ever happened… has now been resolved by Sunrise and Emotion.
During a live broadcast on November 17 on the EMOTION Label Channel YouTube channel, Haruka Mori, Mukai Tenshin, Mafia Kajida and Ryusuke Hikawa announced that in celebration of Emotion’s 40th anniversary, the 1989 OVA series consists of six Mobile Suit Gunma 0080: War in the Pocket will have a special screening at Shinjuku Piccadilly Cinema on Christmas Eve. It’s no wonder why the OVA was shown especially when War in the Pocket took place around Christmas.

To celebrate EMOTION’s 40th anniversary, a special program and the first volume of 5 Gundunda productions will be distributed for free! A Christmas screening of Operation Mobile Suit Gunma 0080 will also be held!
According to Shinjuku Piccadilly Cinema’s website, the screening will begin at 7 p.m. on December 24. Although a ticket costs 2,000 yen (about 13.00 USD), the ticket also comes with special EMOTION Kira Kira Sitcker (105mm x 148mm). Tickets will be on sale for 24 hours from midnight December 20 to midnight December 21 JST. If not sold out, remaining tickets will be available in theaters on December 21.
This begs the question, is War in the Pocket a Christmas anime? In a post on Reddit in 2019, Reddit user joeynotmills asked this very question. Even though there were only seven answers, the fan consensus was “Yes.” And with the screening of War in the Pocket, Sunrise and Emotion on Christmas Eve, the problem was settled. The OVA is clearly a Christmas series.
In conjunction with the screening of War in the Pocket, the Twitter of the social networking site GSM.info announced on November 22 the release of the 1/144 scale Soft Vinyl Santa and Snowman Advertising Balloons Balloon shape. Based on the balloons used in War in the Pocket, these balloons will only be available at Gundam Base stores. The figures went on sale on November 23 and are priced at 1,650 yen (about US$11.03) each.

Fans of Mobile Suit GTA 0080: War in the Pocket won’t want to miss the special screening of the OVA series on December 24. And fans of the collection and the OVAs will definitely want to go to Co. their local Gundunda department for 1/144 soft vinyl models.
