Chief [OSHI NO KO] and Mobile Suit GTA: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 continues to sweep the 10th Anime Trend Awards with YOASOBI’s “IDOL” and AiNA THE END’s “Red:birthmark” winning Best Opening of the Year and Ending best of the year.
“IDOL” won nearly 80 votes over Yorushika’s The Dangers in My Heart opener “Shayou,” marking a narrow victory for Ai fans. However, this is yet another award for the series as “IDOL” also won the award for Best Opening of Spring 2023. YOASOBI also provided some written comments in response to the award.
[OSHI NO KO] launched globally on April 12, 2023 on streaming platforms and took the world by storm. Its opening takes lyrics from the short story “45510” by Mengo Yokoyari, author of [OSHI NO KO], illustrates the two-sided nature of the Japanese idol industry. With such strong ties to the story, it’s no surprise that “IDOL” is doing so well — it has amassed more than 400 million views on Youtube and nearly 300 million streams on Spotify at the time. Reply. Not to mention, it already has an official English version and was covered by Ai’s voice actress (Rie Takahashi) and Hololive’s miComet pair.
Meanwhile, “Red:birthmark” outperformed Zom100: Bucket List of the Dead’s death, Shiyui’s “Happiness of the Dead”, with a much larger vote percentage of over 400 votes. The ending for Gundam’s latest work also won the Spring 2023 Best Ending award.

Although the interpretation of its lyrics in the anime is not as clear as “IDOL”, “Red:birthmark” still made its mark in the Anime Trends Community with its haunting, tense “scream” melody. AiNA’s voice and watercolor imagery depict Suletta dancing in a strange, witch-like trance. It’s enough to fascinate anyone who dares to delve deeper into the truth about Quiet Zero.
