A Shonen Jump classic by Seven Deadly Sins manga creator Nakaba Suzuki is now being adapted into an anime, more than 25 years after its first publication.
Netflix recently revealed that the golf anime Rising Impact will air in two seasons in 2024. Season one will air in June and will be followed by a second season in August. Netflix made the announcement along with trailer and images dated December 8, 2023, introducing the anime as follows: “Aiming to become the best golfer in the world, join the adventures of Gawain Nanaumi as he learn more about the sport and compete against opponents at Camelot Academy ????️.”
Jump’s Blue Exorcist marks its official return to anime after 7 years
Blue Exorcist marks its triumphant return exactly seven years since its predecessor with a new trailer, ED theme, and release date for Season 3.
Netflix also provided a list of the blockbuster’s original cast and the characters each member will voice. Most prominent are Misaki Kuno (Hawk, The Seven Deadly Sins), who voices Gawain, the talented golfer, and Yumiri Hanamori (Sagiri, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku) voices Lancelot Normal, Gawain’s greatest rival. Rising Impact is directed by Hitoshi Nanba (Fate/Grand Order: First Order, Golden Kamuy Seasons 1-3), with script by Michihiro Tsuchiya (Bakuman). Anime studio Lay-duce (Magi: Adventure of Sinbad, Tomo-chan Is a Girl!) will produce the animation for the series.
Suzuki shared his excitement that another of his works was adapted into animation. “I never imagined that, after 25 years, my first work would be adapted into an anime on Netflix!” he say. “The production team has meticulously recreated the illustrations, demonstrating the extraordinary love that went into this project. As an author, I was truly overwhelmed. The artwork and direction are simply outstanding, and the voice actors deliver performances that perfectly suit the characters.”
Dr. Stone Creator’s other popular sci-fi title announces a live-action Hollywood adaptation
Another famous science fiction manga by author Dr. Stone Boichi will also join the growing number of works being adapted into live-action by Hollywood.
Netflix is quickly becoming Suzuki’s second home, with his currently airing Four Knights of the Apocalypse coming to the platform on January 31, 2024. Netflix also streams all four seasons and three Suzuki’s film about the Seven Deadly Sins. It is unclear at this time whether Netflix’s frequent association with Suzuki is part of a larger plan to compete with Crunchyroll, HIDIVE and Disney+, the latter of whose anime catalog has grown much larger than just after one night. Rising Impact joins a resurgence of golf anime and manga, including Birdie Wing, ranked #5 on CBR’s 10 Great Sports Anime People Forgot Existed, and Oi! Tonbo, premiering spring 2024. Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi heaped praise on the series as part of his recent shocking interview.
Rising Impact is Suzuki’s first published series, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from November 1998 to February 2002. Netflix describes the upcoming anime: “In Rising Impact, Gawain Nanaumi is a third grader with an incredible interest in baseball and a real ability to throw the ball. During a chance encounter with a female professional golfer, Kiria Nishino, he learned that golf would allow him to hit the ball farther than any other sport.
