Oh! Tonbo, Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi’s favorite manga of 2023, just released a lengthy trailer ahead of OLM’s upcoming anime adaptation in April 2024. Readers can check out Oi! Tonbo trailer below:
Released on January 18, 2024, Oi! The Tonbo trailer follows the announcement of an April 2024 release date as well as new cast, theme song and staff information. Oh Jin-koo will direct the film and Mitsutaka Hirota is responsible for writing the script. The OLM Inoue team will animate the series with SMDE responsible for the CG. The OLM Inoue team is animating the currently airing Pon no Michi anime.
Togashi gave Oi! Tonbo gave a major endorsement in November, stating that the manga’s main character Tonbo succeeded but failed with Gon’s original design. “It is a work that perfectly combines Mr. Kawasaki’s knowledge of people and golf with Mr. Furusawa’s warm illustrations that tenderly portray dedicated characters,” he added.
Oh! Tonbo has been serialized in Weekly Golf Digest since 2014, with more than 1.8 million copies in circulation, according to PR Times. Oh Jin-koo hyped the upcoming series, calling it a “laugh and tears” story, crafted in a way that makes “everyone want to imitate Tonbo’s swing.” Oh! Tonbo launched in April 2024 and is described: “A dramatic story of golf and people set on the Tokara Islands. Igarashi, who abandoned his past and hid from society, moved to the Tokara Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture. The only person he meets on the island known as ‘Japan’s last frontier’ is a middle school student named Tonbo. An innocent girl hiding an outstanding golf talent!? This meeting greatly changed the fate of both of them…”
