Warning! Contains a little reveal for Hell’s Paradise! While Hunter x Hunter is on hiatus and may not reach the next big arc on the Black Continent for many years, new part Crunchyroll cartoon hell heaven promises a similar plot. The anime is based on the popular manga of the same name by Yuji Kaku, often compared to Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, all of which were serialized on Shonen Jump at the same time. But in terms of plot, it’s probably the most similar to Hunter x Hunter.
The original premise of Hell’s Paradise is extremely similar to the premise of Hunter x Hunter’s Black Continent arc. In Hell’s Paradise, a mysterious land believed to contain an elixir of immortality is discovered, but every search party sent to discover it either disappears or returns because it has lost its humanity. Therefore, the shogun decided to assemble a group of the most powerful criminals in the country to explore that island and bring back the elixir in exchange for an amnesty. At the end of the second episode, this group actually made it to this mysterious Paradise, which ends the similarities with Hunter x Hunter.
Hell Heaven is the perfect place for Hunter x Hunter fans
Hunter x Hunter’s Black Continent has been set up a lot like Hell’s Paradise. Both harbor mysterious threats that can cause adventurers to lose their humanity, even if this manifests itself in different ways. The Dark Continent also holds a wealth of treasures for those who dare to find them, like the elixir of Hell’s Heavens, though ironically its version of immortality is a curse. However, in Hunter x Hunter, an expedition to the Black Continent is made not only with criminals but also with people. Also, this expedition hasn’t actually reached the Continent yet.
During the journey to the Black Continent, another part has begun, focusing on the Kakin Throne Succession Contest. This part is amazing and complex with a huge cast of characters and factions. But the length of the arc and the many hiatuses that Hunter x Hunter mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi had to go on combined to make a visit to the Black Continent seem years away. That’s why Hell’s Paradise offering a similar installment right now is a great treat for Hunter x Hunter fans.
Hell’s Paradise makes Hunter x Hunter’s Dark Continent a reality
While fans excited about the Black Continent aren’t even sure when they’ll get to see it, Hell’s Paradise has shown a similar venue. It’s unclear if it treats such a location in the same way as Hunter x Hunter, but it’s nonetheless satisfying to see how similar the intros of both settings are. So any Hunter x Hunter Fans who can’t wait for the Succession Contest to end need to watch Crunchyroll’s hell heaven while the series is on hiatus.
