In the early 2000s, Studio Ghibli released Howl's Moving Castle, a beautifully animated fantasy film about an adorable fire demon named Calcifer. Now, Ghibli has re-released the famous jewelry collection highlighting one of the character's most memorable scenes.
Studio Ghibli's official online store, Donguri Sora, recently reintroduced the said collection, which includes necklaces and earrings, to its digital catalog. As the name suggests, “Howl's Moving Castle Bacon and Eggs Earrings” and Howl's Moving Castle Bacon and Eggs Necklace” both feature Calcifer “cooking” a plate of bacon and the eggs look very appetizing. The creative designs pay tribute to a humorous scene where Calcifer reluctantly prepares breakfast for Howl and Sophie. To create this collection, Donguri Sora collaborated with Parnat Pok, a Japanese jewelry company specializing in High quality handmade accessories. The earrings come in two different styles and, including tax, cost about 6,050 yen. ($38.66 USD). The necklace costs about 5,830 yen ($37.26 USD).

Hayao Miyazaki, Ghibli's Academy Award-winning co-founder, adapted Howl's Moving Castle from the famous novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones. The story revolves around Sophie, a young woman who runs a small hat shop with her mother and sisters. Although Sophie has a kind and gentle personality, she also starts out with some confidence. One day, a mysterious wizard named Howl rescues her from a pair of suspicious guards. This encounter attracts the attention of another powerful magic user – a dangerous sorceress known as the “Witch of the Waste”. One night, a witch casts a spell on Sophie to make her look like a 90-year-old woman, forcing her to leave the house to find a cure.
Howl's Moving Castle's Calcifer brings a sense of humor to Studio Ghibli's iconic film
While traveling to the next town, Sophie finds refuge inside Howl's iconic “moving castle” – a pile of animated rubble and trash magically strapped to various locations. Soon after, she meets Calcifer, a fire demon forced to follow Howl's orders due to the effects of his own curse. Sophie agrees to help the demon in exchange for her help. Although Howl's Moving Castle is not strictly a comedy, Calcifer's cynicism and frequent words of wisdom are often used for comic relief in the film. Notably, in the English dub produced by Disney, he is voiced by famous comedian Billy Crystal (Monsters Inc, When Harry Met Sally).
