We’re gearing up for battle with the demons, and the big question now is, are our young heroes ready?
It seems like a lot of commenters agree with me, the show is beautifully animated and we love the characters and their rich intimacy and development–but the second big question? Can we get some damn action done yet?
Sadly no, but we did learn more about Rose. She was once a captain, the only healer to ever reach such a high position, but was still haunted by the loss of so many men that she could not “heal from the dead”—she felt like I failed them, though. The king explained it wasn’t her fault. She is also permanently scarred physically, we watch her hold her right eye as she argues that her conceit led to their deaths, and the scars are mental and physical This is her punishment. This is solid. Rose is already a mysterious character and having some texture and backstory made me love her even more deeply.
She then goes on to explain why she founded the Rescue Team and why she wanted an ally that wouldn’t die as well as how Usato demonstrates survival instincts, adaptability, willpower live–and hate losing. I’m crying. Rose sees a lot of potential in Usato.
This episode is all about feeling–showing Usato then healing the townspeople with the brother and sister duo healing the town’s wounds. They reveal that they used to train under Rose and she was too strict with them, but now they are happy to see her happy. Then we get touching moments where the older brother encourages Usato and his younger sister to believe in their abilities. So feel good.
We also get a closer look at the villains and knights that are giving me Berserk vibes–I can’t wait to find out what’s under the helmet! Additionally, the main villain has a deep bond with Rose, I can’t wait to see this rivalry play out right before our eyes.
The best part of this episode was the ending. The cat-eared girl has a terrifying premonition about Usato, revealing that only he can change the future–then she shows him a vision of that terrifying knight killing his friends. After that, the girl said it was better to repay me and ran away.
Wild. Anyway, episode 6 is ALMOST filled with all the fun I’ve been waiting for. A lot of positive emotions, an opportunity to better understand our character. Let’s see how this war plays out?
