Kodansha announced during New York Comic Con an English digital release of Kengo Matsumoto’s romantic comedy manga How to Treat a Lady Knight Right, scheduled for release on November 21, 2023. Announcement This comes nearly two years after Sol Press relinquished the rights to the series in 2022. We’re getting an early look at this English release from Kodansha and you won’t want to miss this one.
Beauty comes from within
Beautiful Leo Cornellia will attract all eyes with her short film of white hair and scarred face. With her heavy armor, flowing red cloak, and trusty sword at her side, she stands out as the strongest female knight in the land. Foolie Dent, a seemingly ordinary magician, is fascinated by Leo’s beauty and is determined to win her heart with a bold declaration of love at the beginning of the manga. Leo, looking as cool and calm as he did at first, is confused by this confession, wondering how any man could love a woman with a scarred face and body. so.
The manga has fairly short chapters divided into short situations that Leo and Foolie encounter. Foolie has a consistent determination to help Leo in any way possible, regardless of how independent Leo presents himself. One such scenario occurs after Leo kills some monsters. Foolie noticed she was slightly injured and began placing his hands on her with the intention of using healing magic. Leo blushes with embarrassment, suggesting that Foolie’s motives might be wrong—only to quickly discover that he was actually trying to help her. This is what I love about Foolie. Every action he takes for Leo is motivated by pure intentions, and most of the time, he’s genuinely trying to support her. He may be dogged in his pursuit of love – but he’s hardly suitable. This makes the series a fun read, one where you don’t have to prepare yourself for the bad intentions often found in romance manga.
Readers can easily relate to Leo when they read the story’s progression. She often experiences a personality disorder due to the scars that adorn her body, reminders of her years of harsh knight training. You may not be able to relate to the harsh training of a knight, but I’m sure many of us can sympathize with Leo’s struggle when feeling self-conscious about his body.
The How to Treat a Lady Knight Right artwork is reminiscent of the Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out style, but it goes a step further with even more intricate linework. This added level of detail is especially evident in the characters’ fantasy outfits and their meticulously designed armor. What really surprised me about Matsumoto’s art was the way he portrayed the emotions of his characters. He is able to capture Leo’s tired emotions through his drawings, even when she is not speaking.
How to Treat a Lady Knight Right is perfect for those looking for a cute and digestible romance. can read short paragraphs. You can easily pick up chapters even if you don’t remember clearly what happened in the last chapter. For me, I read it between bus rides on my morning commute with ease. Kodansha has set a digital release date of November 21 and they have provided a complete list of all the available platforms to enjoy it on the website.
