In a post on Tudum, Netflix detailed its upcoming anime slate and other anime series coming to the platform in the coming months. Among the full list is a new anime series set in the cyberpunk world of motorcycles, which looks set to become the gas-head Akira by way of Ghost in the Shell.
The streaming service describes Tokyo Override as follows: “In AI-optimized Tokyo 100 years in the future, an orphaned teenage hacker blends in until a favor is done to her only friend. He accidentally draws her into a benevolent group of outcast bikers who discover this seemingly utopian city. sinister undercover through a murder investigation involving a drug cartel.”

The final episode of the Sailor Moon anime remake will hit Netflix this summer, with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos The Movie set to be released on Netflix.
The film will be directed by Yusuke Fukada, who is best known for his work on Perfect World and Ultimate Beastmaster, and Veerapatra Jinanavin, who worked on Mantra Warrior: The Legend of the Eight Moons and as CG director on Evangelion: 3.0+ 1.01 Three times at a time. Thailand-based studio RIFF is set to produce the animation, with the company having previously worked on projects such as Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time and the launch trailer for Apex Legends: Legacy, as well such as assisting Khara.Inc with animation and rendering for Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time and producing its own original show (the previously mentioned Mantra Warrior: The Legend of the Eight Moons).
Netflix's Tokyo Override anime will feature many original and real-life motorcycles
To further drive Tokyo Override's motorcycle focus home, the creators teamed up with manufacturers Yamaha and Honda Motors. While details are scarce, eagle-eyed car fans can pick out the Kamen Rider-esque bike in the promotional images, which, in its second form, is based on the Honda SK350K1 with a bulbous windscreen current practice. No release date other than 2024 has been given for the series, but with the end of the year approaching, viewers will soon be able to see it on their screens. This isn't the first time automakers have partnered with anime for cross-promotional purposes. Recently, the Major herself, Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, was seen promoting Hyundai's new electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5 N. Scarlett Johansson was also spotted riding the extremely similar Honda NMA motorcycle. hybrid in the 2017 American film adaptation.

Two SpongeBob SquarePants spinoffs are in the works, with Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie and Plankton: The Movie scheduled for release this August and 2025, respectively. Animated adaptations of the IP Long-term plans are in place for Terminator: Zero and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, both of which are scheduled for release in the second half of the year.
