Don't worry, it's not related to the Pillar Man
There are very few manga authors whose art transcends the medium and becomes its own art form. One such creator is Hirohiko Araki of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. While the art in his series started out quite mundane, Araki pushed the limits of what a manga author could do during 35 years of experimentation. And now Araki is taking his skills from manga drawing to pop art in collaboration with JR Osaka Station.

West Japan Railway Company (JR West) announced the partnership between Araki and Osaka Station on May 16. Although the announcement did not elaborate, JR West did note that Osaka Station is implementing opening “Osaka Station West Art Project” (tentative name)” with a work by Araki.

A work by Hirohiko Araki, the creator of JoJo, will go on exhibition at the west side of Osaka Station!!! 👏👏👏🥳🥳🥳🥳
JR West further explained that Araki's first public artwork is based on the character “Funsui Kozō” (Fountain Boy) erected by the second generation Osaka Station Building. The fountain has existed at the station for 103 years and is now in the Kyoto Railway Museum. Araki's tribute to the fountain will be on display on July 31 at the Inogate Osaka building.
Japanese news site Comic Natalie posted two videos about Araki for the Osaka Station project on YouTube. The first video shows Araki working on the piece while the second video is an interview.

Araki working on something other than manga may seem like a strange prospect, but it's not uncommon for manga creators to leave manga to work on other art projects. With gekiga and Araki's sense of fantasy, it will be interesting to see what the end result is.
